An insert has a frame complementarily fittable with the aperture frame, an electrically powered module, and at least one electrical contact on the insert frame electrically connected to the module and engageable when the insert is fitted to the aperture frame with the contact of the aperture frame. Respective latch formations on the frames are relatively displaceable between a holding position securing the insert in the aperture frame with the contacts in electrical connection with each other and a releasing position permitting the insert to be separated from the aperture frame. A latch mechanism on the aperture frame displaces the latch formation of the aperture frame into the releasing position for freeing the insert from the aperture frame.

A pair of contacts fixed and exposed in the seat and connectable to power circuitry are engageable with a complementary pair of contacts fixed on and exposed at the end cap and positioned so as to engage the respective seat contacts when the end cap is fitted to the seat to connect the motor via the two pairs of contacts to the power circuitry. A latch retains the end cap in the seat with the end-cap contacts in solid contact with the seat contacts.

Respective stiff tapes connected to the slides extend rearward therefrom into the housing to a drive in the housing that pays the tapes out and thereby pushes the slides forward out of the housing into the slots to deploy the sheet over the space and pulls the stiff tapes back into the housing and thereby pulls the slides back and into the housing to retract the sheet from above the space.

An actuating member pulls the tractive element which engages a pair of locking bars on opposite limbs of the fastening frame against springs which are attached at the other ends of the locking bar so that pins of the locking bars release the holding frame.

The panel is movable between an erect position in which it is substantially vertical with its outer edge level with upper ends of the seats and a recumbent position lying on the floor with one of its faces directed upward and forming a cargo-support surface in the luggage compartment. An elongated housing on the panel normally contains a flexible retaining sheet that is extensible from the housing to restrain cargo in the luggage compartment.
