Abstract: Implementations described and claimed herein provide a dual function illumination lamp in compliance with regulations for vehicular forward lighting. In one implementation, the illumination lamp includes a first reflector and a second reflector. The first reflector has a first reflecting region adapted to reflect light emitted from a first light emitting diode through an optics-free lens. The light reflected from the first reflecting region forms a first beam light pattern. The second reflector has a second reflecting region adapted to reflect light emitted from a second light emitting diode through the optics-free lens. The light reflected from the second reflecting region forms a second beam light pattern that is different from the first beam light pattern. In some implementations, the first beam light pattern is a low beam light pattern, and the second beam light pattern is a high beam light pattern.

  • Patent number: 6565244
Abstract: An identification light bar as required by 49 C.F.R. Section 571.108 for vehicles over eighty inches in width is disclosed. The light bar comprises an elongate body having a center optic, left and right distal optics, and left and right light pipes which connect the respective distal optics to the center optic. Each optic is covered by a respective lens cap. A single LED is connected to the body in alignment with the center optic. The center optic receives light emitted by the LED and divides the light such that a first portion thereof is emitted from the light bar through the center lens cap, a second portion thereof is transmitted along the left light pipe and emitted through the left lens cap, and a third portion thereof is transmitted along the right light pipe and emitted through the right lens cap.

  • Patent number: 4970633
Abstract: Signal lamp assembly comprising a light source surrounded by transparent lens walls in four horizontal directions is produced by molding the lens walls in two portions and securing them together. Lens patterns can be molded in three directions, but due to molding limitations, the fourth side cannot be easily molded into a lens configuration. In order to provide a lens for the fourth side, a separately made molded lens insert is placed in receiving and retaining grooves prior to the housing portions being secured together. The resultant assembly retains the insert in desired position and lens walls are thereby effectively provided in the four directions.

  • Patent number: 4924367
Abstract: A molded synthetic resin signal lamp is formed by a pair of facing molded bowl shaped housing portions welded or otherwise connected together along a seam. In order to cover the seam to provide a more attractive appearance, the contact line is located beneath a groove and covered by an opaque band or strip. The band has mounting projections to facilitate assembly with one of the housing portions and the other housing portion is assembled therewith in a manner to sandwich the strip in the groove.

  • Patent number: 4629296
Abstract: A selectively adjustable convex mirror assembly for allowing a motor vehicle operator to see alternative rear views comprises a cylindrical housing and a circular convex mirror positioned in the housing. The housing is rotatably mounted on a swivel mechanism. The mirror is mounted in the housing in such a manner that rotation of the housing upon the swivel mechanism moves the convex mirror through a plurality of reflective orientations. A locking and indexing mechanism is provided to retain the housing in a selected position relative to the swivel mechanism and to provide for controlled and incremental rotation of the housing about the swivel mechanism. The entire assembly is secured to a planar mirror surface of an outside rearview mirror of a motor vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4565345
Abstract: A mirror assembly is provided adapted for use with a vehicle and includes a mirror housing, a mirror, a support bracket for mounting the mirror housing on an associated vehicle and an expandable ball and socket arrangement associated with the mirror housing and support bracket for selectively retaining the mirror in a desired rotational position relative to the vehicle. The ball and socket arrangement comprises a partially spherical socket formed in the mirror housing, a thin-walled socket liner retained therein and an expandable ball securely connected to the mounting bracket. The expandable ball comprises a plurality of partially spherical segments each attached to a shank and resiliently deformable outwardly from an axial bore therethrough. A draw bolt is received in the axial bore and when drawn therethrough, engages the spherical segments biasing same outwardly to resistably engage the socket liner.

  • Patent number: 4051360
Abstract: A lamp and mounting structure therefor is particularly adapted for use as a light such as marker and/or clearance lights, turn signals, tail lights, stop lights and the like for trucks, trailers and other such vehicles requiring the use of such lamps and includes a lamp housing and a conductor retaining member having cooperating portions for receiving and positioning an insulated electrical conductor of the vehicle to be pierced by a piercing screw or pin extending through the lamp housing and in electrical contact with a lamp conductor electrically connected to an electric light bulb mounted within the housing. The conductor retaining member is resilient and is received in a complementary recess in the lamp housing and has one end portion thereof secured to the housing and the other end portion is movable away from the housing to receive therebetween the insulated electrical conductor of the vehicle.
