  • Publication number: 20200316325
Abstract: An electrically operated aerosol-generating system is provided, including a main unit and a tubular aerosol-generating article. The main unit includes a heating portion disposed at an outer surface of the main unit. The heating portion includes one or more electric heaters. The tubular aerosol-generating article includes a tubular aerosol-forming substrate and an inner passage, wherein the inner passage is configured to receive the heating portion of the main unit. The one or more electric heaters of the heating portion of the main unit are arranged to heat the tubular aerosol-forming substrate when the tubular aerosol-generating article is received on the heating portion of the main unit. The aerosol-generating system further includes means to determine that the tubular aerosol-generating article is received on the heating portion of the main unit.

  • Publication number: 20200262639
Abstract: A container for consumer goods is provided, including a housing to receive a plurality of consumer goods and including an aperture to dispense consumer goods from the housing. First and second sealing flaps extend across the aperture and are biased towards each other to form a seal across the aperture for sealing the plurality of consumer goods within the housing. The container includes a dispensing mechanism to dispense the plurality of consumer goods through the aperture when activated by a consumer, the dispensing mechanism configured so that actuation of the dispensing mechanism advances one of the consumer goods between the first and second sealing flaps and through the aperture. The first and second sealing flaps are configured so that they are biased towards each other after each of the consumer goods is dispensed so that the consumer goods remaining in the housing are re-sealed within the container.

  • Publication number: 20190297937
Abstract: A capsule (120) for use in a smoking article includes a liquid sensory enhancing material; and a shell surrounding the liquid sensory enhancing material. The shell has an outer surface rendered hydrophobic by hydrophobic groups covalently bond to the outer surface of the shell. The shell may be rendered hydrophobic by reacting hydroxyl groups at outer surface of the shell with fatty acid halides to covalently attach fatty acid moieties to the surface of the capsule.

  • Publication number: 20180303161
Abstract: An electrically operated aerosol-generating system configured to detect an adverse conditions, such as a dry heater or an unauthorized type of heater, is provided, including an electric heater including at least one heating element configured to heat an aerosol-forming substrate, a power supply, and electric circuitry connected to the electric heater and to the power supply and comprising a memory, the electric circuitry being configured to determine the adverse condition when a ratio between an initial electrical resistance of the electric heater and a change in electrical resistance from the initial resistance is greater than a maximum threshold value stored in the memory or is less than a minimum threshold value stored in the memory, and to limit power supplied to the electric heater, or to provide an indication to a user, if there is the adverse condition.

  • Publication number: 20140172398
Abstract: Systems and methods are directed to computerized methods and one or more computer processors for quantifying the perturbation of a biological system in response to an agent. A set of treatment data corresponding to a response of a biological system to an agent and a set of control data are received. A computational causal network model represents the biological system and includes nodes representing biological entities, edges representing relationships between the biological entities, and direction values representing the expected direction of change between the control data and the treatment data. Activity measures are calculated and represent a difference between the treatment data and the control data, and weight values are calculated for the nodes. A score for the computational model is generated representative of the perturbation of the biological system to the agent and is based on the direction values, the weight values and the activity measures.
