Abstract: A minimum frequency generator of a transceiver system is presented. In a transmitter presented with K bits of parallel data, if a flip condition is determined and selected ones of the K bits are flipped, then the flip condition is signaled in a separately transmitted clock signal. The flip condition can be that all K bits are one or zero. Additionally, the clock signal can indicated whether bits are flipped or not by adjusting the duty cycle of the clock signal.

  • Publication number: 20030072538
Abstract: An optical transmitter/receiver unit having an optical connector with an optical device array block and a multi channel optical fiber block is presented. The optical device array block includes at least one optical device for converting an electric signal to an optical signal or for converting an optical signal to an electrical signal. The optical devices is mounted on a silicon optical bench having a series of grooves for inserting, attaching and aligning each optical device. The optical device array block can be optically coupled to a multi channel optical fiber block that includes at least one optical fiber for transmitting an optical signal, the optical fiber being mounted in V-shaped grooves on a silicon V block. The V-shaped grooves on the V-block and the mounting grooves on the silicon optical bench allow for accurate alignment of each optical fiber with corresponding optical devices.

  • Publication number: 20030026554
Abstract: An optical connector capable of precisely aligning optical fibers with optical devices in a passive fashion is presented. The connector includes a fiber block and a device module. The fiber block can receive optical fibers and where the cores of the optical fibers are positioned in V-grooves. The device module receives optical devices in inserts formed in the device module such that electrical connections can be accomplished between electrical leads formed in the device module and the optical devices. The fiber block and the device module include complementary alignment mechanisms so that a precise alignment of the optical fibers with the optical devices can be accomplished. In some embodiments, the complementary alignment mechanism can be alignment holes and corresponding pins formed in the fiber block and device module. In some embodiments, a cover latched on the device module includes springs which hold the fiber block firmly in place in the device module.

  • Patent number: 6398424
Abstract: A multi-channel optical connector that includes a multi channel optical fiber block including at least one optical fiber capable of being optically coupled to at least one optical device. The multi-channel optical fiber block is incorporated in a plastic molding that is complimentary in shape to that of an optical device array block, and thus can be plugged into the optical device array block. The close tolerances maintained in manufacturing of the connector results in accurate alignment of the fibers captured in the multi-channel optical fiber block with the optical devices in the optical device array block. The close tolerances can be achieved by using MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical System) processing techniques to manufacture the V-grooves in a silicon V-block, which is part of the multi-channel optical fiber block. Alternatively, V-grooves can be produced in the multi-channel optical fiber block by plastic molding.
