The microendoscope can include a single spatial light modulator or multiple spatial light modulators, a furcated imaging fiber bundle with multiple fibers, multi-implants coupled to a subject for multi-implant patterned brain imaging and stimulation. Both the single spatial light modulator and multiple spatial light modulators are capable to project optical patterns to different imaging fibers and thereby stimulate multiple regions of the brain.

    Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to optical instruments and methods for enhancing high-contrast spatial light modulation with cascaded spatial light modulators where a first spatial light modulator displays a first spatial pattern that subsequent cascaded one or more spatial light modulators would calibrate and align with the first spatial pattern, thereby increasing the device contrast ratio of the output pattern displayed by the cascaded spatial light modulators. A relay optics is positioned somewhere between two spatial light modulators for imaging a spatial pattern from one spatial light modulator to another spatial light modulator. In addition, a light source generating an illumination to the first spatial light modulator. A projection lens receives the output pattern from an output of the cascaded spatial light modulators and imaged the output pattern to a required distance at a required magnification by a projection lens.

A fiber array receives light associated with the overlap image so that each individual optical fiber in the fiber array corresponds to multiple pixels on the SLM.

    Abstract: A system and method for multiplexing multiple images of different colors using only a single spatial light modulator (SLM) are disclosed. In the disclosed system, a first dichroic beam splitter receives an image light of first and second wavelengths from the SLM, and reflects the image light of the first wavelength towards a first mirror and an image light of the second wavelength towards a second mirror. The first mirror reflects the image light of the first wavelength at a first angle, and the second mirror reflects the image light of the second wavelength at a second angle. Further, the system includes a second dichroic beam splitter that receives the image light of the first wavelength from the first mirror and the image light of the second wavelength from the second mirror, and recombines the image light of the first and second wavelengths to produce an overlap image.
