The vehicle further includes a pressure control system operably coupled to the engine via a communication connection, the pressure control system receiving a first signal from the engine representing engine speed. The pressure control system is configured to cause the liquid pump to change pumping pressure without changing the engine speed, and wherein the pressure control system is configured to cause the liquid pump to change pumping pressure without changing the engine speed when the pressure control system makes a determination relating to the engine speed.

    Abstract: A system for removably restraining an object in a vehicle includes a housing for attachment to a structure of the vehicle and at least one holder coupled to the housing for movement between an access position and a restraint position. An extensible member has a first end operably engaging the holder and a second end coupled to a retractor device. The retractor device is coupled to the housing and locks the extensible member when the vehicle experiences an event involving a rapid change in position, speed or acceleration, so that the holder is movable to the access position during absence of the event and the holder is locked in the restraint position during the event.

    Abstract: A system for supplying a pre-determined ratio of liquid foam concentrate and water to a mixing device immediately upstream from a fire fighting nozzle. The system is electronically balanced by measuring pressure from a plurality of pressure signal sensors and transmitting said pressure signals to a controller unit. A foam additive pump is powered by a fixed displacement piston motor which in turn is electronically modulated independently of the level of operation of the water pump by a control system that is responsive both to the water pressure developed by the water pump and to the foam liquid concentrate pressure developed by the additive pump.

    Abstract: A military vehicle comprises a vehicle power distribution and control system which includes a plurality of input and output devices and a plurality of microprocessor-based interface modules that collect data from the plurality of input devices and that distribute power to the plurality of output devices. The interface modules are distributed throughout the vehicle and are locally placed with respect to the plurality of input and output devices. In one embodiment, the control system is capable of dynamically reconfiguring itself in the event that a master interface module is damaged. In another embodiment, the control system includes an additional layer of fault management that is utilized when the input states of one or more input devices is undetermined.

    Abstract: A pivotable fold-down step system mounted to a vehicle, such as a fire truck or rescue truck, and synchronized to extend and retract by vehicle door motion. The step system is designed to easily achieve ingress and egress requirements stated within the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) guidelines. The step remains sealed and contoured to the vehicle profile when in the upright stowed position when the vehicle door is closed. The fold down step is operated by means of a pressurized fluid system which is integral to the vehicle. As the vehicle door opens the step is extended downward, under pressurized control, to allow for rapid and safe egress from the vehicle. As the vehicle door closes, the step is again operated by the pressurized integral fluid system and the step rises and folds into a stowed position within the vehicle body prior to transport of the vehicle.

    Abstract: An apparatus for connecting a waterway, having a nozzle, to various sections of an aerial ladder. The connecting apparatus comprises an off-set cam within a cylindrical sleeve. One end of a connecting link is attached to the cylindrical sleeve. The other end fits within the clevises attached to the different sections of the ladder and has an aperture for receiving a clevis pin which is passed through the clevis and connecting link to attach the waterway to the selected ladder section. To firmly lock the waterway to the ladder section, a rotatable shaft, supported by bearings and having one end attached to the off-set axis of the cam, is rotated by means of a handle located on the exterior of the bracket. The rotation of the shaft and cam urge the waterway bracket against a step on the selected ladder section and thus securely lock the waterway in place.

    Abstract: A rotary latch mechanism for engaging a latch post, for example to latch a vehicle door to its frame. The latch mechanism comprises a rotating cam having a recess to engage or release the latch post. A torsion spring or the like biases the cam for rotation toward the position in which it releases the latch post. A latch bar sliding perpendicular to the plane of rotation of the cam is biased for slidably engaging an abutment on the cam to latch the cam in its engaged position. A handle or other release is provided to retract the latch bar, freeing the cam for rotation to its disengaged position. The mechanism is quite simple and requires only a few moving parts, yet it provides the same functions as other more complex latch mechanisms.
