Patents Assigned to Pilkington Aerospace Limited
  • Patent number: 6569787
Abstract: A laminated bullet resistant glazing comprises a plurality of glass and plastic plies arranged in at least two layers including an outer layer and an inner layer. The outer layer extends beyond the inner layer so as to form a step which extends around at least part of the periphery of the glazing. The glazing is reinforced with a band positioned at least partially on the step and having at least first and second longitudinal faces, and in position the first longitudinal face is in contact with the step and the second longitudinal face is in contact with an adjacent portion of the glazing. Application of the band to the step enhances the support strength of the outer layer and enables the manufacture of a bullet resistant glazing having an outer layer reduced in thickness compared to prior bullet resistant glazings.

  • Patent number: 5468346
Abstract: A glass ply having a chemically strengthened surface, for example a chemically etched surface, for use in a laminated glazing is treated by hot melting a thermoplastic material onto such strengthened glass surface prior to incorporation of the glass ply into the required laminate. The thermoplastic material may be polyvinylbutyral but is preferably polyurethane.

  • Patent number: 5376443
Abstract: A vehicle window includes a glass ply with a layer of thermoset polyurethane over the outer face of the glass which inhibits Restrahlen Band reflection at 8-12 microns from the glass. The polyurethane layer may include an inner layer portion of relatively hard polyurethane and an outer layer of relatively soft polyurethane.
