  • Patent number: 10632586
Abstract: In an example embodiment, a floor sander comprises a motor having at least two selectable speeds, and a sanding adaptor driven to rotate about a rotational axis by the motor. The sanding adaptor includes a planetary disk that rotates about the rotational axis of the sanding adaptor. In addition, the sanding adaptor includes a plurality of sanding head units, each of which is coupled to the planetary disk for independent rotational movement. Each sanding head unit therefore rotates about its own rotational axis independently of any other sanding head unit or the planetary disk. An isolator is also provided, and is positioned generally between the planetary disk and the motor.

  • Publication number: 20140173864
Abstract: An ultra-high speed burnisher with a pair of opposing polygonal burnishing pads creates less friction when burnishing a floor than a single circular burnishing pad or two circular burnishing pads. Less friction means that the polygonal pads rotate faster than circular burnishing pads and the polygonal pads create more heat on the floor finish than a single circular burnishing pad. The polygonal pads may be Y-shaped, flower-shaped, hexagonal-shaped, daisy-shaped, elongate like a lawnmower blade, triangular-shaped, square-shaped, pentagonal-shaped or cross-shaped. A method for producing polygonal pads and the resulting product of this method are also disclosed. A method for burnishing the floor of a store with at least 100,000 square feet of floor space on a single battery charge is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6353957
Abstract: A gearbox arrangement couples an input shaft to an output shaft whereby the output shaft is driven by the input shaft in a constant rotational direction but at two different rotational speeds depending upon the particular direction of rotation of an input shaft for a given rotational speed of the input shaft. The input shaft has an input gear integral therewith and the output shaft has an output gear integral therewith. A first unidirectional clutch couples the input shaft with the output shaft such that rotation of the input shaft in a first input direction at a first input speed rotates the output shaft in a first output direction at a first output speed, but rotation of the input shaft in a second, opposite input direction causes the first unidirectional clutch to slip. An idler gear meshes with and is driven by the input gear. An intermediate shaft has a first intermediate gear integral therewith. The first intermediate gear is meshed with and driven by the idler gear.

  • Patent number: 5827335
Abstract: A spud end fuel metering tube in an air-fuel mixing passage in a propane carburetor for enhancing performance of the system. The fuel supplying spud end is located in a venturi throat within the mixing chamber of the carburetor. The spud end includes linearly aligned fuel supply apertures that face downstream of the airflow therethrough. This combination provides increased power and fuel economy over a wide range of RPMs and demand levels while substantially reducing undesirable pollutant emission levels. The butterfly valve of the carburetor includes apertures formed therein for permitting the engine to idle when the butterfly valve closes eliminating the necessity for other downstream ports.

  • Patent number: 5819698
Abstract: An engine condition monitoring system includes a sensor for producing a sensor signal representing the oxygen content of the exhaust gas of a small internal combustion engine in a floor buffer fueled by propane or other form of natural gas. A micro-processor, operating in accordance with programming instructions stored in an EPROM, processes the received sensor signal, determines whether the engine is operating in one of four categories: normal, warning, idle and shut down, and generates an output signal indicative of the determined category. The output signal is used to provide a visual display of the engine's condition on red and green LEDs and/or shut down the engine by shorting the ignition circuit.

  • Patent number: 5253384
Abstract: An electric buffing machine and a method buffing waxed floors are disclosed. The buffing machine comprises a molded plastic housing, a foldable handle and a DC drive motor directly driving a buffing pad holder. The pad is movable into and out of engagement with the floor by a pad lifter mechanism which raises and lowers the pad holder along a splined drive shaft of the drive motor. The pad lifter mechanism comprises a reversible motor mounted to the housing and connected to the pad holder by means of a threaded output shaft which supports a lifter arm rotatably connected to the pad holder. Rotation of the threaded shaft in one direction or the other moves the lifter arm into which the shaft is threaded together with the pad holder and pad up or down relative to the floor. By observing the current draw of the drive motor, control of pad pressure may be achieved. The pad holder design provides a directed air flow into the housing to collect dust, dirt and debris generated by the buffing operation.

  • Patent number: 5230120
Abstract: A one-piece dual durometer pad holder for use in a floor buffing machine has an outer radial portion and an inner radial portion. The outer radial portion is made from a first hardenable material having a first durometer hardness in its hardened state, and the inner radial portion is made from a second material having a second durometer hardness in its hardened state, with the second durometer hardness being less than the first durometer hardness. The outer and inner radial portions are interconnected in such fashion as to prevent shear failure between the two portions. The method of making the floor pad holder includes spin casting the outer radial portion from the first harden- able material, and then, while the first hardenable material is in its unhardened state, spin casting the second hardenable material in a single spinning operation. The materials are allowed to cure at the same time, forming a smooth and continuous bond between the two durometer portions of the pad holder.

  • Patent number: 4805793
Abstract: A blow molded container for liquids is vertically stackable with geometrically similar containers. Each container has a unitary body formed of an extruded parison the thermoplastic material. The containers have a bottom surface which includes a release groove bifurcating the bottom surface, the release groove including a remnant portion of the parison forming a web-like external rib depending downward within the release groove. A top surface of the container includes an opening closed by the cap and includes a notch which receives the remnant portion of the parison of a geometrically similar container stacked thereon to laterally locate and stabilize the relative positions of the stacked containers.

  • Patent number: 4598440
Abstract: The disclosure relates to an electric buffing machine which is equipped with an X-shaped buffing pad that is mounted to a similarly X-shaped pad holder. The arms of the pad holder have a wedge-shaped cross section that acts as an air foil to create air currents that flow up between the arms of the X-pad. The casing surrounding the pad has a specially designed tunnel-like spiral diffuser that guides the air currents entered into a collection box. The casing also has a flexible skirt mounted to the lower side thereof, extending around three-quarters of the casing periphery, which closes the gap between the casing and the floor. The chassis has two pairs of wheels and is designed so that when the buffing machine is turned off, the machine rests entirely on the wheels with the buffing pad raised off the ground. When the machine is turned on, the air currents pull the pad to the floor with a predetermined pressure.
