Abstract: The present invention provides a bacterial microorganism having the ability to degrade or detoxify beauvericin or derivatives or analogs of beauvericin. The present invention further provides a method for detoxification of plants pre- or post-harvest using microbes having the ability to degrade or detoxify beauvericin or derivatives or analogs of beauvericin.
Abstract: Plant development can be altered by transforming a plant with a genetic construct that includes regulatory elements and DNA sequences capable of acting in a fashion to inhibit pollen formation or function, thus rendering the transformed plant reversibly male-sterile. In particular, the present invention relates to the use of dominant negative genes and an anther-specific promoter. Male sterility is reversed by incorporation into a plant of a second genetic construct which represses the dominant negative gene. The invention also relates to novel DNA sequences which exhibit the ability to serve as anther-specific promoters in plants.

Abstract: A soybean variety designated 9294, the plants and seeds of soybean variety 9294, methods for producing a soybean plant produced by crossing the variety 9294 with itself or with another soybean plant, and hybrid soybean seeds and plants produced by crossing the variety 9294 with another soybean line or plant.

Abstract: Methods for identifying organisms capable of degrading fumonisin. Fumonisin can be incorporated into culture medium for selection of organisms resistant to fumonisin and/or capable of growing on flumonisin as a sole carbon source. Using this method, several organisms have been identified. These organisms can be used to isolate the enzyme and the gene responsible for conferring fumonisin-resistance. The gene can be cloned and inserted into a suitable expression vector so that the protein can be further characterized. Additionally, the DNA encoding for furaonisin-resistance can be used to transform plant cells normally susceptible to Fusarium or other toxin-producing fungus infection. Plants can be regenerated from the transformed plant cells. In this way, a transgenic plant can be produced with the capability of degrading fumonisin, as well as with the capability of producing the degrading enzymes. Methods for detoxification in grain processing and in animal feed and rumen microbes are also disclosed.

Abstract: The invention comprises a substances or plurality of substances extracted from the seeds of buffalo grass, Buchloe dactyloides. The crude extract was found to comprise one or a plurality of substances having molecular weights of less than 20 kDa which are natural insecticides against corn rootworm. Bioassays show corn rootworm mortality of up to 100% when larvae are fed a diet containing crude or purified buffalo grass extract.
