  • Patent number: 5338083
Abstract: An arrangement for attaching a visor to a vehicle in storage and use positions. The attachment arrangement is formed from a pivot shaft having a mounted end adapted to be mounted to the vehicle and a free end. The pivot shaft has a flat surface which is oriented along the longitudinal axis of the pivot shaft a predetermined distance between the mounting end and the free end. The pivot shaft further has a circumambient groove located around the pivot shaft. A spring clip is also provided which cooperates between the visor and the pivot shaft to pivotally position the visor. The spring clip has a narrow portion which cooperates with the flat surface on the pivot shaft to provide a detent for positioning the visor in a storage position. The spring clip has a wide portion which spans the predetermined distance and is located opposite the narrow portion to ensure free pivotal movement of the visor about the pivot shaft except in the storage position.

  • Patent number: 5338082
Abstract: A mechanism for attaching an outer covering to a molded shell-type vehicle sun visor having a pair of shell halves and an aperture in one shell half. The mechanism includes a stackes attached to or integral with an inner surface of the shell half and a bezel which cooperates with the stakes to sandwich the free edge portions of the covering along an inner surface of a shell half around the aperture to prevent the covering from working loose.

  • Patent number: 5316361
Abstract: A visor extender for use in combination with a vehicle visor which has a visor defining an internal cavity for housing a sheath which defines a channel and an opening. A blade which has a first end and a second end is movable along the channel between a retracted position substantially within the cavity and an extended position outside of the cavity. A grip means is located adjacent the first end of the blade for selectively moving the blade between the retracted position and the extended position. A limiting means is provided which cooperates with an opening in the sheath to limit movement of the blade in the extended position. A guide means is provided on the blade adjacent the second end for guiding movement of the blade on the sheath as the blade moves in the channel between the retracted position and the extended position.

  • Patent number: 5301994
Abstract: A hollow visor is provided which is adapted to receive a mirror and which defines a channel. A plurality of doors are provided which are located within the visor and which are movable within the channel for selectively moving between an extended position which covers the mirror in the retracted position and which uncovers the mirror. Interconnecting levers are provided for interconnecting the plurality of doors provided for simultaneous movement thereof between the extended position and the retracted position when one of the plurality of doors is moved.

  • Patent number: 5280988
Abstract: A mounting system for use in combination with a vehicle visor which is movable between a storage position and first and second use positions. A mounting bracket is provided which is adapted to be affixed to the vehicle for supporting the visor. The mounting bracket has an immovable pivot shaft extending therefrom. A block cooperating with the mounting bracket is provided to enable pivotal movement of the block and the visor relative to the pivot shaft between a storage position and a first use position. The block also enables pivotal movement of the visor relative to the block between the first use position and a second use position.

  • Patent number: 5244244
Abstract: An adjustable sun visor which is capable of providing simultaneous glare protection for both the windshield and the side window. The visor is movable between a stowed position and one of three use modes. In the first use mode, glare protection is provided for the windshield. In the second use mode, glare protection is provided for the side window. And in the third use mode, glare protection is simultaneously provided for the windshield and a side window. The visor is formed from a first blade pivotally mounted to the vehicle by a mounting bracket. A second blade is affixed to the first blade and has a living hinge integrally formed therein enabling swinging movement of the second blade between a position contiguous with the first blade and a position away from the first blade to provide glare protection for the windshield when the visor is in the second use mode.

  • Patent number: 5188446
Abstract: An electrical circuit assembly mechanism for an illuminated vehicle visor having a mirror and a slidable panel for covering and uncovering the mirror. Movement of the slidable panel from the covered position to the uncovered position closes the circuit. Movement of the slidable panel from the uncovered position to the covered position opens the circuit. An electrically conductive member cooperates with the slidable panel and an electrically conductive support member to activate and deactivate the illumination of the mirror on the visor. Movement of the slidable panel results in corresponding movement of the conductive member, which, in turn, results in contact being made or broken between the support member and a ground bar, depending on the position of the slidable panel relative to the mirror.
