    Abstract: A compound optical and electrical conductor includes a fiberoptic light transmitting element (multiple fibers or single solid rod) with at least one solar cell with LED therewith. The electrical conductor or conductors may be imbedded or otherwise secured within the optically conducting element or its surrounding jacket or sheath (20), or may be contained in a separate elongate retainer which may be provided to hold the optically conducting element in place as desired. The conductors may include a jacket or retainer (112) which is optically open along one side thereof, allowing the optical conductor (14) to emit light laterally therefrom subtending an angle defined by the optical gap in the jacket or retainer. One or more compound connectors may be provided, for linking two or more such compound conductors together as desired. The connectors provide for both the concentric alignment of the optical conductors, and also the electrical connection of the electrical conductors (16a-16c) of the compound devices.

    Abstract: LEDs can be added to a conventional fluorescent lighting fixture by providing an LED circuit to the fluorescent lighting fixture pan, by adding LEDs to the fluorescent light tube with an indentation in the light tube rear to receive an LED to influence the apparent color of the the fluorescent light, or by adding an LED to either end cap of the fluorescent light tube to shine down the tube from the interior, added as an add-on band which could clip onto the tube, and could also include a circuit board based LED attached to the rear of the tube and alternatively have LED lighting within a charged fluorescent tube.

    Abstract: A number of different embodiments of illuminated electrical cords and outlets are provided. Some embodiments include a light source within at least one connector end of an electrical cord, with the cord having a translucent outer cover for emitting the light radially from the connector end light source. The cord may be a household electrical or extension cord, a computer power supply cord, auxiliary power cord, etc., as desired. A kit may be provided to adapt a conventional, non-illuminated cord to provide illumination therefrom. Other embodiments include electrical outlets, adapters, and power strips having a light source(s) therein, for illuminating an electrical cord installed in the electrical power source. The outlets, adapters, and power strips may include differently colored lighting, and/or multiple colored lenses for manual or automated selection of color output. Battery power may be provided, with automated switching in the event of a primary power failure.

    Abstract: A novel lighting system utilizing low power consumption LEDs to provide safe, economical and decorative lighting. In a first embodiment, and acrylic candle body having a 45 degree reflector is mounted on top of a LED source to direct light along the body of the light and outwardly as directed by the reflector. The acrylic body can be rotated to point the reflected light in the desired direction. In a second embodiment, the acrylic candle and reflector are replaced by fiber optic ports and a light driver for connecting fiber optic strands that can be side lighting or end lighting to provide lighting at points distant from the light source. In a third embodiment, the fiber optic strand in run in parallel inside or outside a transparent liquid conduit such as a modified garden hose, a beverage dispenser, or a kitchen faucet to light the conduit and or the spray of the hose in a single or multiple colors.

    Abstract: The present invention provides several embodiments of an elongate hollow tubular or solid rod lighting device including a plurality of LEDs therewith and appropriate electrical componentry, and serving as a direct replacement for a conventional fluorescent light tube in a conventional fluorescent lighting fixture. The present lighting device includes appropriate connector pins extending from each end thereof, enabling the device to be installed in a conventional fluorescent lighting fixture with no modification to the fixture. The light may include appropriate electrical componentry such as a step-down transformer to provide the required voltage for the LEDs, either integrally within the light, incorporated in an end cap thereof, or installed separately therefrom in the fixture, as desired. The light may be colored or tinted as desired by the use of LEDs providing the desired color output, and/or by installing a tinted sleeve over the tube or rod as desired.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of illuminating bridge and road guard rails. The outside of the rails are coated with a reflective material and then co-extruded with an acrylic material surrounding the rail. Alternatively, two or more acrylic materials or tubes are extruded around a rail. The inner tube preferably has a colored shiny or reflective covering, or stripes of one or more colors, or with a picture or design on the outside or within the tube. In a further embodiment, the rails can be retrofitted with a two-section acrylic covering that fits together along and surrounds the length of the rail. The acrylic coverings can also be joined via a collar that is also made in two halves to fit around the rail at each rail post or at each end of the rail section.

    Abstract: A series of different embodiments of illuminated translucent devices, each include lighting at at least one end thereof and a channel or passage therethrough or therealong for installing connecting electrical wiring therein. An opaque sleeve or the like is provided about the passage to conceal the passage and any wiring or other element(s) installed therein. The lighting elements may be any suitable type, but LEDs are preferred. The external cross sectional shape of the device may be round, or any other shape as desired for use as a free standing column or support, or as a wall mounted sconce or the like. Some embodiments include a structural member therein or opaque structural sleeve therearound, with the outer sleeve having a series of light passages formed therethrough. The devices may be used as floor lamp or ceiling fan columns, guard or bannister rails, vehicle guards and racks, etc., as desired.
