Patent number: 6129959Abstract: A sleeve label is fabricated from a sheet of polyethylene which is folded upon itself along two longitudinal fold lines with the overlying layers then being joined together along a seal line. The seal line is located so that the outer layer of the folded sheet forms an outer flap, which may be adhered to the body of the sleeve by a releasable adhesive strip. The outer flap can be printed to comprise a redeemable coupon, or it may be printed with detailed product information, or it may be configured to serve as a handle for the product. The label may also include a tubular header of small diameter, which can also serve as a coupon, or be printed with detailed product information, or configured to serve as a handle.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 1998Date of Patent: October 10, 2000Assignee: Plastic Packaging, Inc.Inventors: Joseph B. Mercer, Quy Thai

Patent number: 6113841Abstract: A blow molding machine comprising a base, a wheel mounted rotationally on the base, a controller to control operation of a pin within a die, and a position detector for detecting a short run mold on the wheel wherein the wheel comprises a plurality of identical molds and the short run mold which differs in size and/or shape from each of the plurality of identical molds. The position detector, upon detecting the short run mold, switches a relay to switch from a first pin control program causing the extrusion of a parison having appropriate parameters for the plurality of identical molds, to a second pin control program causing the extrusion of a parison having appropriate parameters for the short run mold.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1998Date of Patent: September 5, 2000Assignee: Pechiney Plastic Packaging, Inc.Inventor: Gary Nielsen

Patent number: 6066376Abstract: A high-barrier non-foil laminate composition is disclosed. The laminate composition comprises an outer heat stable layer, a barrier layer, and an inner layer that readily adheres to metal with the application of heat. The outer and inner layers may be bonded to the barrier layer by means of adhesive layers. Preferably, the outer layer comprises a material with a higher melting temperature than the inner layer such as polyethylene terephthalate. The barrier layer may be a high-barrier saran and the sealant layer may be a copolymer of ethylene and acrylic acid.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1997Date of Patent: May 23, 2000Assignee: Pechiney Plastic Packaging, Inc.Inventor: Duane A. Patent number: 4484970Abstract: A desired decorative design on packaging such as tubes is made up of a combination of printed matter and a decorative foil such as a metal, pigmented or textured pattern foil. The method involves the steps of first applying the printed matter to the material with an ink treated to prevent adherence of the foil to the printed matter. Thereafter, the foil coated with an adhesive is positioned against the material and heat and/or pressure applied so that a foil transfer will occur onto all areas of the material engaged by the foil that are devoid of the printed matter. The foil is applied with a smooth continuous silicone pad. Exact registration is assured and the use of complicated die designs is wholly avoided.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 1982Date of Patent: November 27, 1984Assignee: Thatcher Plastic Packaging, Inc.Inventors: Henry A.
