Patent number: 6797673Abstract: Spray of discharge drift is controlled in aqueous mixtures with the inclusion of a substantially neutral pH drift control agent containing lecithin, a viscosity modifying agent, and a water dispersing agent. In one embodiment, the viscosity modifying agent is a methyl ester and the water dispersing agent is a polyoxyethylene ether. In a preferred embodiment the viscosity modify agent is methyl soyate and the water dispersing agent has the formula H23C11(CH2CH2O)5H. The lecithin-based drift control agents of the present invention reduce the formation of fine droplets when the mixtures are atomized, thereby reducing the amount of the mixture that drifts outside of the area targeted to receive the spray or discharge.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2002Date of Patent: September 28, 2004Assignee: Platte Chemical CompanyInventors: Randall Worthley, Daniel Bergman

Patent number: 6549851Abstract: A system and method for translating plant tissue analysis results into nutritional supplement recommendations. A tissue analysis is performed on plant samples from a treatable area of plants. The tissue analysis results indicate current nutrient levels in the plant. The tissue analysis results are applied as inputs to rule-based logic that selects entries from an expert database. The expert database includes nutritional amendment information including specific products, application rates, and application intervals intended to restore the plant nutrient levels to desired values.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2001Date of Patent: April 15, 2003Assignee: Platte Chemical CompanyInventor: Thomas W. Patent number: 6300282Abstract: A preferred technique for increasing potato crop yields and/or minimizing nitrate leaching of potato crop acreage involves the application of surfactant at planting to the soil adjacent a seed potato. In an alternative method of the present invention, surfactant is applied after planting to the top or shoulder of the hill in which a potato plant is growing. The improved potato crop yields of the present invention are believed to result of the maintenance of soil moisture levels near the potato plant root zone and/or the prevention of nitrogen and other nutrient-leaching from the potato plant root zone.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1999Date of Patent: October 9, 2001Assignee: Platte Chemical Company, a Nebraska corporationInventor: Eric Thomas Cooley

Patent number: 5811372Abstract: A method of controlling sprout formation in tubers includes application of CIPC and carvone or application of CIPC and benzothiazole and then storing the treated tubers. In a preferred embodiment of the method, tubers to be placed in storage are treated with a composition of CIPC and carvone or CIP and benzothiazole utilizing thermal fogging techniques, with the average effective residue of CIPC on the tubers of approximately 16.6 ppm. When the tubers are to be used to growth tuber-producing plants, for example, when the tubers are to be used as seed potatoes, after removal from storage, the seed potatoes are treated with ethylene at planting, thereby stimulating sprout growth.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 1997Date of Patent: September 22, 1998Assignee: Platte Chemical CompanyInventors: Bruce D.
