  • Patent number: 8709579
Abstract: A stretchable elastic laminate including at least one nonwoven fabric layer, and at least one elastomeric material extruded as a melt onto a major surface of the nonwoven fabric to form an elastic layer bonded to the surface of the nonwoven fabric. The nonwoven fabric layer has first and second bonding zones formed on the surface thereof, which have first and second bonding strengths. The elastic layer is bonded to the surface of the nonwoven fabric such that the elastic layer forms a stronger bond with the first bonding zone on the surface of the nonwoven than the bond formed between the elastic layer and the second bonding zone on the surface of the nonwoven. The lightly bonded areas of the elastic laminate provide increased elongation in the cross direction and improved recovery after stretch, while the more strongly bonded areas provide adhesive strength. Also disclosed is a method of forming a stretchable laminate having increased elongation and improved recovery after stretch.

  • Patent number: 8686323
Abstract: Multilayer freezable/microwaveable films and packages having both low temperature resistance to withstand subzero freezer storage temperatures and high temperature resistance to withstand microwave cooking temperatures. The freezable/microwaveable films and packages include, for example, a film having at least three coextruded layers including an inner heat sealable layer, at least one core layer adjacent to the heat sealable layer, and an outer skin layer adjacent the core layer opposite the heat sealable layer. Preferably, the films and packages further include an outer protective layer laminated to the outer skin layer. The freezable/microwaveable packages can include a venting system, such as vent slits or a vent valve in the package, or vents in at least one seal of the package, to facilitate microwave heating or cooking of the package contents.

  • Patent number: 8686324
Abstract: A hermetically sealed package, for example a freezable, microwavable package containing a food product, having a sealing film that includes a vent system that is scored by a laser into the package. The vent system includes at least one linear or non-linear vent pattern scored into a portion of the outer surface of the sealing film so as to form at least one weakened wall pattern. According to certain embodiments, the vent pattern may be scored by a laser to a depth that does not perforate the sealing film. The inner surface of the sealing film that is adjacent to the weakened wall pattern is directly exposed to pressure that is generated in the inner region of the package during heating. According to some embodiments, the vent pattern may have a vent pattern span that is approximately 1% to 50% of the size of the inner region span.

  • Patent number: 8241722
Abstract: The present technology generally relates to multilayer films having breathable regions which are suitable for use as broadcast fumigation films and for other applications. More particularly, the present technology relates to multilayer films comprising at least one breathable layer and at least one barrier layer, where the layers are arranged so that the multilayer film has at least one region, such as at the edge of the film, that is breathable throughout its thickness. The present technology also relates to methods of manufacturing and using such multilayer films.

  • Publication number: 20110132788
Abstract: Films and methods for making tampering events obvious are disclosed. In one embodiment, a tamper evident film includes a coating containing a first substance, and an observable change occurs when the first substance comes into contact with a second substance. In another embodiment, a tamper evident stretch wrap includes an inner portion, an outer portion, and a substance between the inner and outer portions that is adapted to escape from between the portions when the outer portion is breached. In another embodiment, a tamper evident stretch wrap includes a first layer of film having a first pattern and a second layer of film having a second pattern that overlap to form a predetermined third pattern. In yet another embodiment, a stretch wrap is exposed to ultraviolet light and checked for a change in a fluorescent signature to determine whether the stretch wrap has been breached.

  • Patent number: 7922854
Abstract: The presently described technology provides a low cost multilayer elastomeric film containing at least one layer of styrene block copolymer and at least one elastomer layer substantially free of styrene block copolymer such that the resultant film has a low permanent set substantially equal to or less than a film comprised of styrene block copolymer only. The elastomeric film may be used in elasticized features of various articles, such as disposable absorbent articles. Methods for producing the low cost elastomeric film having a low permanent set are also described.
