  • Patent number: 4300716
Abstract: A one-piece T-shaped carton blank is disclosed which is utilized to form a rectangular cross-sectional container having its top and bottom end panels sealed in a plane substantially perpendicular to its sidewalls. The carton blank is formed having a definite dimensional relationship between its end panels and side panels to provide improved nesting of multiple carton blanks upon paperboard sheet stock in an alternating inverted side-by-side relationship. A pair of end sealing tabs extend along the top and bottom edges of the blank side panels. One of the end sealing tabs is separated from the top end panel and from a side sealing tap to prevent tearing and to permit the complete welding of the side sealing tab up onto the top end closure panel of the carton blank. This separation of the end sealing tab in combination with displacement of the hinge line of the top end closure panel downward provides a liquid-tight corner seal for the carton.

  • Patent number: 4292787
Abstract: A one-piece blank forms a liquid-tight carton having plural rectangular side walls sealed or integral with one another at adjoining side edges and flat end panels of polygonal shape, the carton facilitating ultrasonic sealing of the end walls to the sidewalls through a unique set of sealing tabs on the side and end walls. The process and equipment for sealing the end walls to the side walls permits ultrasonic heating and sealing after the carton is full of liquid through a compression of the sealing tabs of these walls between facing dies which are diagonally aligned in relationship to the side and end walls. The carton formed by this blank facilitates nesting of multiple cartons, one above the other.

  • Patent number: 4077308
Abstract: Apparatus for making a succession of bags from a web of sheet material which has been printed with a series of spaced parallel bands of heat activatable adhesive located at intervals corresponding to the lengths of the bags to be made wherein the web is formed about a mandrel into a tube and advanced therealong to sealing instrumentalities situated forwardly of the mandrel in the direction of movement, a pair of endless belts paralleling the mandrel for advancing the tube along the mandrel toward the sealing instrumentalities and a detector responsive to the presence of a band of adhesive on the web and located at a place in the path of movement of the web which corresponds to a whole number of bag lengths from the sealing instrumentalities which controls the feeding means so as to feed one bag length at a time relative to the sealing instrumentalities.

  • Patent number: 4042099
Abstract: In an apparatus for processing items wherein there is a rotatable sorting table for orienting items and delivering the properly oriented items to a discharge passage, and an air jet for driving the items along the discharge passage, a pressure responsive device operable by blocking of the air jet to stop rotation of the sorting table.

  • Patent number: 3983682
Abstract: A method of packaging particulate material in a carton within a flexible bag comprising forming a tube of flexible material, sealing a narrow length of the tube transversely to provide a bag length above the seal closed at the bottom and open at the top and a bag length below the seal closed at the bottom and top, and severing the tube at the seal to separate the bag below the seal from the bag above the seal and while sealing and severing the tube to form the bags, filling the bag length above the seal to a predetermined level. The bag length below the seal is gravitationally dropped into the open top of the carton and while dropping its side walls are confined so as to have a cross section corresponding to the inside cross section of the carton.

  • Patent number: 3958688
Abstract: Container orienting apparatus wherein a conveyor moves containers standing upright thereon between a guide rail at one side and a screw at the other side which spaces the containers on the conveyor, there being gaps intermediate the ends of the guide rail and screw providing an open space wherein the containers may be rotated about their vertical axis, a conveyor supported above the container conveyor carrying pivot pins at a spacing corresponding to the spacing of the containers on the container conveyor for engagement with the tops of the containers as they travel along the space to hold the containers on the conveyor while being rotated, a ram located at the space for initiating rotation of the containers as they enter the space and guides for completing the rotation of the containers as they leave the space.
