  • Patent number: 6235080
Abstract: A device is disclosed for directly charging raw material into a melter-gasifier in a molten iron manufacturing facility using coal and fine iron ore. The elutriation of fine dusts is inhibited while directly charging coal and reduced fines into the melter-gasifier. The direct charging device is applied to a fluidized bed type final reducing furnace and has a plurality of discharging outlets for discharging the fines. The melter-gasifier receives lump coal to form a coal packed bed within it and receives the reduced fine iron ore from the final reducing furnace. The direct charging device includes a plurality of charging inlets formed on the side wall of the melter-gasifier connected by conduits to the discharging outlets of the final reducing furnace whereby reduced fine iron ore is continuously charged from the final reducing furnace to the coal packed bed of the melter-gasifier.

  • Patent number: 6224650
Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing molten iron by using a calcination furnace, and a manufacturing method therefor are disclosed. A high temperature reducing gas (1000 to 1100° C.) from a melter gasifier is used as a calcination heat in a calcination furnace so as to cool the high temperature reducing gas to the optimum reduction temperature (800 to 850° C.), and so as to supply the cooled reducing gas to a shaft furnace, whereby the manufacture of the molten iron can be efficiently carried out, and a high thermal efficiency is realized even without a separate gas cooling device. Therefore, a separate cooling device for cooling the hot reducing gas of the melter gasifier is not required. Further, the hot reducing gas is naturally cooled at the calcination furnace, and therefore, the thermal efficiency of the hot reducing gas of the melter gasifier is maximized. Further, a separate water-using cooler and a separate compressor are omitted, and therefore, the molten iron manufacturing facility is simplified.

  • Patent number: 6203848
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for increasing the charring ratio of coal. In manufacturing an ingot iron using the coal, magnesium oxide or limestone is used as an additive for charring the coal. The additive increases the charring ratio of the coal while giving no affection onto slag. An MgO suspension or limestone suspension is mixed with the coal and thus obtained mixture is dried to attach MgO or the limestone onto the surface of the coal. • Patent number: 6137583
Abstract: A method of measuring the degree of alloying of galvanized steel sheet through the use of laser beams includes the steps of directing a laser beam on a standard sample and reflecting and splitting the beam and detecting the intensity of specular reflection I.sub.0 (.alpha.) at an angle of reflection (.alpha.) and the intensity of scattering I.sub.0 (.beta.) at an angle of reflection (.beta.) to thus obtain the degree of alloying (X.sub.0) of the standard sample by the formula: ##EQU1## The above steps are repeated to obtain values I.sub.1 (.alpha.) and I.sub.2 (.beta.) to obtain a comparative degree of alloying (X.sub.1) of the standard sample using the above equation form. The arrangement of the laser, mirror and first and second beam splitters are corrected based on a comparison of the X.sub.0 and X.sub.1 values. The above steps are then repeated by directing the laser onto a galvanized steel sheet to obtain the degree of alloying (X.sub.2) of the galvanized steel sheet.

Abstract: A smelting reduction apparatus and a method for producing molten pig iron using the smelting reduction apparatus are disclosed. The molten pig iron is produced by using iron ore, sintered ore or iron pellets, so that the reduced iron discharge operation from a pre-reducing furnace to a melter-gasifier would not give any influence to the operation of the pre-reducing furnace. An iron ore is pre-reduced at a pre-reducing furnace by utilizing a reducing off-gas which is produced from a melter-gasifier. The pre-reduced iron ore is melted and reduced at the melter-gasifier. The reducing gas which is discharged from the melter-gasifier is supplied through an ascending duct and a cyclone into the pre-reducing furnace. The fine iron ore which is collected at the cyclone is spouted through a recycling device and a melter-burner into the melter-gasifier.
