Patent number: 5373582Abstract: A body armor panel has integral receivers disposed intermediate the multiple ballistic layers of the panel at the side and shoulder portions thereof. Resilient straps extend from the receivers, and have separable fasteners on the ends thereof for attachment to complimentary fasteners on a wearer's body. Using resilient straps, anchored in and extending from both the shoulders and sides allows the armor panel to be tensioned around its periphery, thus causing the armor panel to substantially keep its shape and surface area protection after successive impacts, as the resilient straps counteract the drawing in of the ballistic layers after each impact. Multiple linear stitching is used to attach each receiver within the armor panel to reduce susceptibility to ballistic impacts and to allow contouring of the side and shoulder portions to a body shape.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1992Date of Patent: December 20, 1994Assignee: Point Blank Body Armor, Inc.Inventors: Gaeton J. Patent number: 5331683Abstract: A protective body armor garment shell is disclosed which has a front panel and a back panel made of a lightweight material and having features simulating a uniform shirt such that the garment shell can be worn over or in place of a standard uniform shirt and maintain a professional appearance while concealing the fact that body armor is being worn. The back panel is attached to the body utilizing a belt which firmly retains the garment to the body even when the front panel is loosely draped across the chest. The drapable feature allows a person wearing the garment to loosen the front panel to provide ventilation while maintaining the garment on the body, to maximize comfort.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1991Date of Patent: July 26, 1994Assignee: Point Blank Body Armor, Inc.Inventors: Richard Stone, David R. Patent number: 4989266Abstract: A body armor insert has a set of ballistic cloth plies made from polyethylene fibers sandwiched between first and second sets of ballistic cloth plies made from aramid fiber. The number of plies in each of the three sets of plies is a function of a level of protection to be provided. Each of the two sets of aramid plies are sewn together along a central region of the set of plies. The set of polyethylene fiber plies are not sewn together except that all three sets of plies are sewn together in a shoulder region of the body armor insert.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1989Date of Patent: February 5, 1991Assignee: Point Blank Body Armor, Inc.Inventors: Anthony J. Patent number: 4660223Abstract: Multiple panels are assembled to provide front and back body armor inserts to be worn under regular clothing. Each panel consists of a ply of titanium metal bonded to a ply of aramid fiber woven cloth. The panels are arranged in overlapping and in abutting relationship but are not joined to one another except by way of overlying and underlying felted material plies. This provides an insert that is capable of some degree of flexing and adjustment on the body of the wearer. Back up strip panels protect the wearer along the abutting zones of the main panels.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1986Date of Patent: April 28, 1987Assignee: Point Blank Body Armor, Inc.Inventor: Donald P.
