Patent number: 9404521Abstract: A self-integrating insert sleeve assembly, comprising an insert sleeve and an expander pin, for insertion into an aperture of a work piece is provided. Upon installation, the insert sleeve component is incrementally expanded by interaction with the pin, and secured to the aperture of the work piece, such that the resulting aperture of the installed insert sleeve has a predetermined diameter, and the resulting structure now contains compressive residual stresses. Thus, the installed insert sleeve may be employed as a hole repair solution, allowing for the installation of an original size fastener per structural design within a damaged and reconditioned aperture, or simply for enhanced structural fatigue life. The installation of this insert sleeve may be done through various manners, including pull type, push type, and blind type installation processes.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 2013Date of Patent: August 2, 2016Assignee: Polaris Fastening Consulting, LLCInventors: Rahmatollah F. Patent number: 8529177Abstract: A fastener, capable of securing work pieces accessible from only one side, is provided. The blind fastener includes a deformable sleeve and a pin, the pin having a main body section and a tail section. The main body section includes a shear load bearing section integrally connected to a lock collar engagement section on a first end and a pin stalk section on a second end, the pin stalk section integrally connected to a series of pin sleeve integrating grooves. The tail section is integrally connected between the main body, via a break notch, and a series of serrations. The sleeve includes a hollow tubular shank having a first sleeve end and a second sleeve end, where the first sleeve end has a sleeve head having an opening for receiving the main body section. At all times during assembly of the fastener, the series of serrations remain outside the sleeve, never passing through the sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2011Date of Patent: September 10, 2013Assignee: Polaris Fastening Consulting, LLCInventors: Rahmatollah F. Patent number: 8434984Abstract: A novel one piece integrated fastener is provided which includes a deformable sleeve for receiving a pin where the pin has an elongated pin shank, terminating at a first pin end in a pin head and terminating at a second pin end in an externally threaded portion, and a transitional section integrally connected between the first pin end and the second pin end. The deformable sleeve may include a hollow tubular shank terminating at a first sleeve end in a sleeve head having an opening for receiving the pin and terminating at a second sleeve end having an internal sleeve head surface for engagement with the external pin head side surface when in an assembled position. The sleeve includes a first sleeve section, a second sleeve section and a third sleeve section having an internal surface for engaging the externally threaded portion of the pin upon installation.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2010Date of Patent: May 7, 2013Assignee: Polaris Fastening Consulting, LLCInventor: Rahmatollah F. The expanding sleeve may include a hollow tubular shank terminating at a first end in a sleeve head and having an opening at a second sleeve end for receiving the pin. The sleeve head include an internal sleeve head surface for engagement with an external pin head side surface when in an assembled position. When the pin and expanding sleeve in the assembled position are inserted into an aperture in a structure, a gap is formed between the aperture and an outer surface of the expanding sleeve. The outer surface of the expanding sleeve radially expands outward into the aperture filling the gap upon engagement of the internal face of the sleeve head and the external pin head surface.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2010Date of Patent: September 11, 2012Assignee: Polaris Fastening Consulting, LLCInventor: Rahmatollah F.
