  • Patent number: 7269252
Abstract: A system to allow a conferee defined as a nuisance source to respond to an automatic nuisance decision of a Multipoint Control Unit is disclosed. For example, a conferee placing a conference on hold may generate on hold music, which may be identified by a nuisance detector. The nuisance detector sends an indication of the nuisance condition to a control unit in the MCU. The control unit mutes the signal coming from this conferee and sends an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) message to the conferee. The message may inform the conferee that he has been muted and requests the conferee for example to press one of a plurality of touch tone keys depending on his situation. For instance, the conferee can select particular keys if he is returning from the hold condition, if he is experiencing a noisy line/environment and needs to reduce the sensitivity of the nuisance detector algorithm, or if he wishes to disable the nuisance detector algorithm.

  • Patent number: 7253831
Abstract: There is provided herein a system for video encoding and decoding that uses short-term and long-term buffers. Reconstruction of each block within an image may be performed with reference to one of the buffers, so that different portions of an image, or different images in a sequence, may be reconstructed using different buffers. There is also provided herein systems for signaling, between an encoder and a decoder, the use of the above buffers and related address information. The encoder may, for example, transmit information identifying video data as corresponding to a particular one of the buffers, and the decoder may transmit information relating to the size of the short-term and the long-term buffer. The buffer sizes may be changed during transmission of video data by including buffer allocation information in the video data. Also disclosed herein are methods and apparatuses according to the above.

  • Patent number: 7239662
Abstract: The present invention provides, in one embodiment, a system and method for concealing video errors. The system encodes, reorders, and packetizes video information into video data packets for transmission over a communication network such that the system conceals errors caused by lost video data packets when the system receives, depacketizes, orders, and decodes the data packets. In one embodiment, the system and method encodes and packetizes video information, such that adjacent macroblocks are not placed in the same video data packets. Additionally, the system and method may provide information accompanying the video data packets to facilitate the decoding process. An advantage to such a scheme is that errors due to video data packet loss are spatially distributed over a video frame. Thus, if regions of data surrounding a lost macroblock are successfully decoded, the decoder may predict motion vectors and spatial content with a higher degree of accuracy, which leads to higher video quality.

  • Publication number: 20070147634
Abstract: An arbitrarily positioned cluster of three microphones can be used for stereo input of a videoconferencing system. To produce stereo input, right and left weightings for signal inputs from each of the microphones are determined. The right and left weightings correspond to preferred directive patterns for stereo input of the system. The determined right weightings are applied to the signal inputs from each of the microphones, and the weighted inputs are summed to product the right input. The same is done for the left input using the determined left weightings. The three microphones are preferably first-order, cardioid microphone capsules spaced close together in an audio unit, where each faces radially outward at 120-degrees. The orientation of the arbitrarily positioned cluster relative to the system can be determined by directly detecting the orientation or by using stored arrangements.

  • Patent number: 7206016
Abstract: There is provided herein a system for reducing artifacts associated with multi-threaded video coding. The system generates a virtual thread from the multi-threaded data. The virtual thread combines the multi-thread data with estimates of virtual thread data in a manner that variably weights the combination according to motion information decoded from the multi-thread. A post-processing system is described that generates a single, virtual thread of video data, based upon image and motion data from a plurality of different threads in a multi-threaded video stream. The system estimates motion vectors for the virtual thread, generates frames of estimated video data, and applies the estimated frames to a filter. The filter generates an output that combines each new estimated frame with the current reference frame on a pixel-by-pixel basis.

  • Publication number: 20070064094
Abstract: The disclosed method provides audio location perception to an endpoint in a multipoint videoconference by providing a plurality of audio streams to the endpoint, wherein each of the audio streams corresponds to one of the loudspeakers at the endpoint. The audio streams are differentiated so as to emphasize broadcasting of the audio streams through one or more loudspeakers closest to a position of a speaking endpoint in a videoconference layout that is displayed at the endpoint. For example, the audio broadcast at a loudspeaker that is at a far-side of the screen might be attenuated or time delayed compared to audio broadcast at a loudspeaker that is located at a near-side of the display. The disclosure also provides a multipoint control unit (MCU) that processes audio signals from two or more endpoints according to the positions in a layout of the endpoints and then transmits processed audio streams to the endpoints in a way that allows endpoints to broadcast spatially correlated audio.
