  • Patent number: 5948447
Abstract: A method and apparatus for product recovery of polyolefins, particularly high molecular weight amorphous poly alphaolefins, wherein the use of water during the method is significantly decreased and wherein the intermediate stage of storing and drying the chunk form of the polyolefin is eliminated. Polyolefins produced in a reactor are heated and mixed by sigma blades in a kneader-extruder to remove any unreacted monomer(s). The polyolefin material in a liquid form is then transferred directly to an extruder to further remove any unreacted monomer(s) and catalyst(s). The invention further includes a method of measuring the inventory in a vessel using a gas of known quantity and known thermodynamic properties.

  • Patent number: 5929397
Abstract: The case of an intake silencer system includes a first case half and a second case half coupled to each other at mating faces, with an intake duct clamped between the mating faces. The intake duct opens into a resonant chamber within the case, so that noise is damped by a resonant effect. Three ribs are provided on an inner surface of the first case half, thereby defining four subsidiary silencing chambers each functioning as a side branch for producing a resonant effect to obtain a silencing effect in a wide frequency range. The ribs also contribute to an enhancement in rigidity of the wall surfaces of the case.

  • Patent number: 5918642
Abstract: A flexible synthetic resin tube is provided by uniting an inner layer of a polyether-series thermoplastic polyurethane resin with a hard synthetic resin spiral reinforcement (e.g. a hard vinyl chloride resin) or a soft synthetic resin outer layer (e.g. a soft vinyl chloride resin), through an interposed adhesive intermediate resin layer. The polyurethane resin includes a resin having a diol composed of a tetramethylenoxy unit as a polyol component. The spiral reinforcement may be buried in the outer layer. The intermediate resin layer may comprise a mixture of the polyether-series thermoplastic polyurethane resin, and the synthetic resin for the spiral reinforcement or the outer layer. This tube imparts an enhanced hydrolysis-resistant property to the polyurethane resin forming the inner layer, and an improved adhesive strength between the inner layer and the spiral reinforcement or the outer layer.

  • Patent number: 5899237
Abstract: An abrasion resistant composite hose comprises (a) an outer layer composing a spiral tape of a soft synthetic resin, where adjacent side edges of the spiral tape join each other to form the outer layer, (b) a spiral reinforcement of a hard synthetic resin for retaining and reinforcing the outer layer, and (c) an inner layer comprising a spiral strip formed by a rubber, where adjacent side edges of the spiral strip join each other to form the inner layer, and the outer layer and inner layer join each other. In such a composite hose having this structure, at least a periphery of the strip except an exposed surface to an inner surface of the hose is covered with a covering element comprising a rubber adhesive to the soft synthetic resin constituting the outer layer, and the rubber strip is formed by a rubber having higher abrasion resistance than the covering element to obtain a composite hose having enhanced abrasion resistance.

  • Patent number: 5785920
Abstract: A rod 3 is driven forward to open an annular slit 5 between a die 2 and a mandrel 4 and the molten resin in a resin accumulation chamber 10 is expelled from annular slit 5 to form a parison. In this operation, the die 2 is displaced from an original position adjoining to the mandrel 4 (axially aligned position) upon opening of the annular slit 5 to correct for any variation in thickness of parison P to be extruded from the annular slit 5. Then, the molten resin accumulated in accumulation chamber 10 is expelled from annular slit 5 to form parison P. The die 2 is then reset to the original position to bring the die 2 and mandrel 4 into axial alignment. Therefore, as the rod 3 is driven back, the annular slit 5 can be closed tight by the mandrel 4 to prevent resin leakage. After closure of the annular slit 5, molten resin is accumulated again in the accumulation chamber 10 and the annular slit 5 is opened. This procedure is repeated to produce parisons on an intermittent basis.

  • Patent number: 5696173
Abstract: The invention comprises processes for the production of useful fluid or grease from curable silicone compositions or silicone rubbers, preferably reclaimed or scrap silicone rubber. The processes involve the application of energy in such a manner that a un-curable silicone grease or liquid that contains essentially all of the original material is produced from curable silicone compositions and grease or liquid is produced from silicone rubbers. Suitable energy forms include thermal and mechanical. The fluid or grease produced by the processes are useful as raw materials for the manufacture of silicone products such as: antifoam compounds (defoamers), greases, conformal coatings or rubbers. The materials produced by these processes were unexpectedly found to have exceptional antifoam properties without requiring the addition of other materials or further processing.

  • Patent number: 5013808
Abstract: A method of preparing an alkoxysilane and a silicone resin includes the steps of combining a siloxane A having a first boiling point with a catalyst in a reaction vessel. A tri or tetra alkoxy functional silane monomer B is added to the vessel having a second boiling point. The contents of the vessel are heated. By a rearrangement reaction, an alkoxysilane is distilled from the vessel. The alkoxysilane has a boiling point which is lower than the mixture of the boiling points of the siloxane A, the silane monomer B and the temperature of the heated vessel.
