  • Patent number: 7271212
Abstract: A resin composition comprises 1 to 60 parts by weight of a wollastonite fiber (in which the number-average fiber length is 1 to 30 ?m, the number-average fiber diameter is 0.1 to 10 ?m, and the proportion of the number of a fiber having a fiber length of 5 to 25 ?m relative to the total number of the fiber is 20 to 75%) and 0.1 to 20 parts by weight of an acid- or epoxy-modified olefinic resin having a melting point of 100 to 170° C., relative to 100 parts by weight of a thermoplastic resin (e.g., a polycarbonate-series resin). The weight-average molecular weight of the modified olefinic resin may be about 2.5×104 to 30×104. The resin composition may comprise a flame retardant. The combination use of the wollastonite fiber and the modified olefinic resin improves heat resistance, impact resistance and weld strength, even in the case of using a wollastonite fiber having a number-average fiber diameter of about 4 to 7 ?m and an average aspect ratio of about 1.5 to 3.

  • Patent number: 7258542
Abstract: A mold assembly for blow molding plastic articles is provided having an upper mold member, a lower mold member and a lower support member. The lower mold member is preferably a relatively lightweight plate having a generally centrally located molding cavity matingly matched with an upper molding cavity in the upper mold member. The lower mold member is moved horizontally and optionally vertically beneath an extrusion head as a molten parison is extruded. The lower mold member is then transported to, and positioned within, the lower support member. The upper mold member is then closed over the lower mold member and lower support to close the mold assembly. The molten parison is then expanded in the mold cavity. After the molding operation, the plastic part may be removed and the lower mold member may be cooled by immersion in a cooling fluid. The apparatus to move the lower mold member during extrusion of the parison and to the molding station may be a robotic arm.

  • Publication number: 20070135587
Abstract: A laser weldable PBT-series resin composition comprises a polybutylene terephthalate (PBT)-series resin (A), and at least one resin (B) selected from the group consisting of a polycarbonate-series resin (b1), a styrenic resin (b2), a polyethylene terephthalate-series resin (b3) and an acrylic resin (b4). The PBT-series resin (A) may be a PBT homopolyester, or a PBT-series copolymer modified with not more than 30 mol % of a copolymerizable monomer (e.g., a bisphenol compound or an adduct thereof with an alkylene oxide, and an asymmetrical aromatic dicarboxylic acid). The ratio (weight ratio) of the resin (B) relative to the PBT-series resin (A) [the former/the latter] is about 0.1/1 to 1.5/1. The resin composition may comprise a glass fiber. The resin composition is excellent in laser weldability, and can improve in welding strength of a shaped article formed from the resin composition.

  • Patent number: 7105121
Abstract: Fuel system components for vehicles may be made from polyethylene components which are typically blow molded. To inhibit fuel vapour permeation, the polyethylene is often co-extruded into a parison with the parison comprising a barrier layer. Upon trimming flash or in the mold closure itself, the barrier layer may be ruptured. Sealing of areas of discontinuity in the fuel system component to inhibit hydrocarbon vapour pass through is achieved by sealing the area of barrier discontinuity with a sealing bead which has the necessary barrier properties. The barrier properties may be inherent in the sealing bead material or in a barrier layer extruded into the sealing bead.

  • Patent number: 6919021
Abstract: A method and compound for the purification of proteins including the attachment of a non-peptidic, small compound which simulates the affinity of Protein A for immumoglobulins to a support matrix. Once attached on the support matrix, the resulting monochloro-triazine derivative is reacted with an excess of an amino compound at a higher temperature to achieve high levels of substitution. The resulting support matrix with ligand is useful in the affinity separations of antibodies. Further, a mercapto heterocyclic system ligand may be attached to the super matrix and useful in affinity separations of antibodies.

  • Patent number: 6833103
Abstract: A blow molding mold has first and second fixtures. The first fixture includes drive means, typically in the form of pins, while the second mold fixture has drive receiving means, typically in the form of holes. When the second mold fixture is in registration with the first mold fixture, the drive means are extended to lock and locate the two fixtures together to enable blow molding without a blow molding press. The method of blow molding uses a robotic arm to move a lightweight second mold fixture to accept a parison as it is extruded. After extrusion the arm moves the second fixture toward the first fixture so that the fixtures can be located and locked together. A single robot using a single extrusion head can serve several mold stations depending upon cycle times.
