  • Patent number: 4592724
Abstract: A grate cooler arranged at right angles to a rotary kiln and having its vertical longitudinal central plane spaced a distance between 10 and 150 cm from the discharge end of the rotary kiln. The zone of the grate cooler lying below the material discharge end of the rotary kiln has more stationary grating plates and more unventilated grating plates per unit area than the laterally adjacent zones of the material receiving end and in the remaining region of the cooler. This results in good protection of the grating plates at the material receiving end and an even distribution of the material over the whole width of the cooler by means of a distribution cone which is kept in motion.

  • Patent number: 4579526
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for the heat treatment of fine-grained material wherein a precalcination zone formed by the kiln exhaust gas duct of a rotary kiln and into which two branch streams of cooling air which have been subjected to opposing rotational flow are introduced. In this way an equalization of the speed profile over the cross-section of the kiln exhaust gas duct and an improvement in the burning up of the fuel is achieved.

  • Patent number: 4560412
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of producing white cement in which a reducing atmosphere is maintained over the entire length of a rotary kiln and precalcination takes place in a preheater supplied with heat exhaust gases from the kiln. Additional fuel is delivered to the preheater in such quantity that the CO contained in the kiln exhaust gases is burnt. As a result the essential reduction processes take place reliably in the rotary kiln without any problems occurring in the preheater as a result of a high CO content.

  • Patent number: 4554876
Abstract: A rotary kiln has a sealable separating gap between the kiln outlet head and an inlet shaft leading to a cooler. In order that the shortest possible drop height for the fired material falling out of the discharge end of the rotating cylinder may be maintained despite the separating gap, interengaging steps and side openings defined thereby are formed in the side walls of the kiln outlet head and the inlet shaft, and sections of the separating gap which run at different heights open into the side openings and the horizontal distance between any two steps lying opposite one another corresponds approximately to the maximum displacement path of the kiln outlet head.

  • Patent number: 4545704
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the pneumatic conveyance of fine material using a conveyor vessel and a storage chamber in which the discharge capacity of the vessel is increased by delivering material from the storage chamber to the conveyor vessel and reduced by delivering material from the conveyor vessel to the storage chamber. • Patent number: 4514170
Abstract: Apparatus for heat treating fine-grained material comprises a rotary kiln into which material is delivered from a multistage preheater that communicates with the kiln via a vertical exhaust gas duct. Treated material is discharged from the kiln to a cooler from which two cooling air ducts extend and communicate with the exhaust gas duct at two vertically spaced zones. Material from the second lowest preheater stage is introduced into the exhaust gas duct adjacent the lower cooling air duct. Fuel is introduced into the exhaust gas duct adjacent each of the cooling air ducts. The apparatus is distinguished by a particularly high degree of deacidification of the raw material and good combustion of the fuel.

  • Patent number: 4492566
Abstract: Fine-grained material such as raw cement meal is preheated in a multi-stage cyclone preheater, precalcined in a precalcination zone, sintered in a rotary kiln, and cooled in a cooler. Exhaust gases from the kiln are delivered to the precalcining zone and then to the preheater. Tertiary air from the cooler is divided into two streams one of which is mixed with kiln exhaust gases between the kiln and the precalciner and the other of which is delivered directly to the precalciner. The quantity of tertiary air flowing through each branch is regulated to maintain the temperature of the kiln exhaust gases at a selected value.

  • Patent number: 4490109
Abstract: Apparatus for heat treatment of fine-grained material has a multi-stage cyclone preheater, a rotary kiln, and a gas pipe extending between the kiln and the preheater and forming a calcination zone for precalcining materials entrained in the gas stream. The gas pipe has an upwardly extending pipe section that communicates with an arcuate deflector section and a downward pipe section which extends downwards to and communicates with the lowest cyclone stage. The downwardly extending pipe section of the gas pipe has an extension constructed as a coarse separator so that relatively coarse material particles contained in the mixed gas-material stream are kept away from the lowest cyclone stage of the preheater.
