    Abstract: A rigid holding container has a flexible cover sheet extending over the holding area for sealing the contents. The container has a wide, flat perimeter lip which provides a firm base for the seal between the cover sheet and the container. A breaching bubble is formed in the seal, under the cover and over the perimeter lip. The consumer breaches the bubble by pressing the bubble against the lip between the thumb and forefinger. The pressure compresses the air in the bubble causing the bubble to expand laterally. The expanding bubble breaches along the perimeter of the lip, producing a peel flap of flexible cover material. The consumer pulls the peel flap while holding the rigid container down, to remove the cover sheet.

Fluid trapped within a discrete portion of the tab area to form a breachable bubble may be sufficient to cause the bubble to breach upon application of minimal pressure by a user, separating a sealed portion of the first film from the second film.

The flow conduit expands towards the perimeter of the apparatus under external pressure, typically applied by the consumer. Perimeter seal 10S extends around the perimeter of the container. Inner divider 14D extends between the product chamber and the breaching bubble. Transfer passage 14 through the inner divider permits inflation of the breaching bubble in response to moderate pressure applied to the product chamber during an extended inflation period. Breaching edge 12E forms part of the perimeter seal around the breaching bubble. The breaching edge provides an edge breach by separating the opposed laminae along the breaching edge in response to substantial pressure applied to the breaching bubble during a brief breaching period.

Flexible cover lamina 12C is pressed into selective engagement base lamina 12B defining a series of sequential storage units 10X and 10Y and 10Z with frangible seal 14F (no hatching) and destruct seal 14D (double hatching). Sealed medication chamber 16M is proximate the destruct seal within each storage unit. Chamber access region 16R is proximate the frangible seal within each storage unit. Breachable bubble 16B is positioned within each chamber access region and expands under applied pressure towards the frangible seal of the storage unit (see FIGS. 1A and 1B). The expansion separates the opposed laminae until the bubble produces perimeter breach 12P (see FIG. 1C) in the frangible seal. Flexible peel flap 14C is formed by the flexible cover lamina along the breached frangible seal as the bubble breaches.

    Abstract: An easy to open package is described. The package includes a sealed compartment having a tab region. The tab region is formed by connecting together a first panel to a second panel. Within the tab region, however, are a pair of opposing peel tabs. The peel tabs comprise an area within the tab region where the first panel is not sealed to the second panel. The peel tabs extend from the tab region to an edge of the package. In this manner, a user can peel apart the peel tabs to separate the first panel from the second panel and open the sealed compartment. In one embodiment, at least one of the peel tabs can be coated with a material to prevent the first panel from sealing to the second panel.

    Abstract: Sealed delivery unit 10 (shown in exploded format in FIG. 1A) contains medication 10M, and is formed by a generally flat member 10F pressed into selective engagement with an opposed shaped member 10S. Pumping chamber 12P, enclosed between the members generates a rupturing pressure in response to an external force applied by the user (indicated by arrow F shown in FIG. 1B). Enclosed Medication chamber 12M contains the medication to be delivered. Tunnel conduit 14 provides fluid communication between the chambers for rupturing the medication chamber in response to the rupturing pressure. Perimeter seal 16 extends around the pumping chamber and the medication chamber and the tunnel conduit. The perimeter seal is secure enough to withstand the internal rupturing pressure generated during delivery. Delivery port 18 with pull-away closure 18C (see FIG. 1C) delivers the medication out of medication chamber 12M. Rupture site 18S is proximate the delivery port.
