Abstract: A method for determining relative detector element efficiencies in a positron emission tomography (PET)-scanning device is indicated. The method includes the steps of: a) acquiring a histogram of singles emission data by a detector of the PET-scanning device, wherein each bin of the histogram is associated to one of a plurality of detector elements of the detector and reflects the sum of singles emissions detected by the respective detector element during a certain period of time; and b) applying a spatial high-pass filter to the acquired histogram of singles emission data. Furthermore, a PET-scanning device configured to carry out this method and a computer program for controlling such a PET-scanning device are provided.
Abstract: A method to position a subject to be scanned in a positron emission tomography (PET)-scanning device (1) is presented. According to this method, the subject to be scanned (P) is prepositioned in the PET-scanning device (1) and a set of PET-raw data is acquired of the subject to be scanned (P) for a series of slices by means of a detector (11) of the PET-scanning device (1). The acquired set of PET-raw data is represented in the form of at least one projection view, and the position of the subject to be scanned (P) relative to the detector (11) is directly assessed based on this at least one projection view. Furthermore, a PET-scanning device (1) configured to carry out this method and a computer program for controlling such a PET-scanning device are provided.

Abstract: A positron emission tomography (PET)-scanning device is provided having a detector ring for detecting emitted PET-radiation and a main supporting structure to which is attached a U-shaped portion with two arms for holding the detector ring between the arms (341). The detector ring is held by the two arms in such a way that the detector ring can be rotated about an axis of rotation that extends through the U-shaped portion, in particular through the two arms of the U-shaped portion. The main supporting structure has a guide rail to which the U-shaped portion is attached in such a way, that the U-shaped portion can be displaced along the guide rail, wherein the guide rail extends along an inclined direction relative to the direction of gravity.

Abstract: A detector (2) for a positron emission tomography (PET)-scanning device is provided, the detector (2) including an opening (28) sized to accommodate the head of a human patient (P) and a plurality of sensor modules (22), which serve to detect emitted PET-radiation from the human patient (P) and which are arranged in the form of a regular polygon having a plurality of corners (24a, 24b, 24c). The detector further has an inner surface (23), which is arranged radially inside of the sensor modules (22), in order to circumferentially delimit the opening (28). The sensor modules (22) are arranged such that one of the corners is a nose corner (24a) which is adapted to accommodate the patient's nose (N) in the intended normal use of the detector (2). The inner surface (23) reflects the shape of the polygon at least in the region of the nose corner (24a).
