  • Patent number: 5092744
Abstract: An intensifier for delivering ultra high pressure water to a cutting head of a water jet cutting apparatus. The intensifier has a power piston and cylinder assembly connected to piston members extended into pumping chambers in housing located at opposite ends of the piston and cylinder assembly. Inlet poppet valves located in the pumping chambers control the flow of water from inlet passages into the pumping chambers. Outlet poppet valves allow ultra high pressure water to be pumped out of the pumping chamber into an accumulator fluidly connected to the cutting head. Hydraulic fluid under pressure is sequentially directed to opposite ends of the piston and cylinder assembly with a solenoid operated reversing valve. Limit switches operable in response to movement of the piston members control the reversing valve. Linear motion transfer mechanisms are moved with ramps on the piston members to actuate the limit switches to control the reciprocating action of the piston and cylinder assembly.

  • Patent number: 5018670
Abstract: A cutting head for a water jet cutting machine has a body removably supporting a holder with an orifice element, and insert with a chamber, and a nozzle having a passage in alignment with the water flow path through the head. The holder has a cone shaped surface that fits into a complimentary shaped cone recess to align the aperture of the orifice element with the axis of a water inlet chamber. The insert is retained within a transverse bore in the body to align its chamber with the axis of the aperture. A griping collet holds the nozzle on the body and aligns the passage of the nozzle with the axis of the aperture so that aperture, insert chamber, and the passage of the nozzle are linearly aligned with each other to form the water flow path through the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 4937985
Abstract: An abrasive liquid jet cutting system has a cutting head for directing a jet of ultra high pressure water and grit to a work piece. The jet cuts the work piece in a desired pattern to form a product. The liquid from the jet, grit, and particulate materials of the work piece are collected with a receiver located generally below the cutting head. Controls for both the cutting head and receiver are coordinated to move the receiver along with the cutting head so that the water and particulate materials are collected by receiver. The receiver has an upright tubular member provided with wear resistant sleeves and an upright central rod to absorb the impact forces of the water and particulate materials that move through the receiver. A drive means connected to the tubular body operates to continuously rotate the tubular body, sleeves and rod to distribute the wear around the sleeves and rod caused by the water, grit and particulate materials that impinge thereon.

  • Patent number: 4262853
Abstract: A machine and method for winding coils of wire on a slotted core of an armature assembly. The machine has a holder for releasably supporting the armature core assembly in an upright position. Rotatable annular members located adjacent opposite sides of the core have holes for accommodating wires that are wound on the core. Chucks mounted on the annular members guide the wires moving from the annular members into two pairs of slots in the core. A motor connected to the annular members with a common drive structure rotates the annular members in opposite directions to wind two coils of wire on the core. A core indexing motor drivably connected to the holder operates to sequentially index the core during the winding operation.

  • Patent number: 4081072
Abstract: An automatic conveyor system wherein identical carriers that have coaxial circular and non-circular surfaces and axially oriented pockets to receive articles to be moved from one work station to another, roll along track sections that connect the several work stations and, upon arriving at the successive work stations, are presented thereto in predetermined rotary orientation established by coaction between a surface thereof that is part of their non-circular portion, and an adjacent track section. At certain of the work stations the carriers enter transfer mechanism by which the carriers are tipped from axially horizontal to axially vertical disposition and back to the horizontal orientation.

  • Patent number: 3980243
Abstract: An apparatus for winding coils of wire on the core of an armature having a pair of rotatable wire winding members rotatably mounted on first and second housings. A first pair of plate beam assemblies yieldably mounts the first housing on the support. A second pair of plate beam assemblies yieldably mounts the second housing on the support. The plate beam assemblies locate the wire winding members in wire winding positions adjacent the core of the armature. A control unit connected to each housing is operable to move the housings to selected positions by flexing the plate beam assemblies. The control unit has a fluid motor and linkages that are operable to move the housings and wire winding members away from the core so that the wound armature can be removed from the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 3942687
Abstract: An applicator by which small, discrete, uniform quantities of molten thermoplastic adhesive can be dispensed in rapid succession comprises a body having a heated inlet chamber, which hot melt enters under low pressure, and a pump chamber. A plunger in the pump chamber is reciprocated by a pneumatic motor. A charging stroke of the plunger draws hot melt out of the inlet chamber, across a check valve and into the pump chamber. The discharging stroke expels the hot melt across an outlet check valve and through an outlet orifice coaxial with the pump chamber.
