  • Patent number: 9884413
Abstract: A socket retaining tool for preventing separation of a socket from a drive shaft of a driving tool. A keeper sleeve is configured to accommodate insertion and reciprocal movement of a quick change adapter and a quick change sleeve under the action of a biasing member. The quick change adapter has a male end and an opposite female end. The male and female ends are constructed and arranged to be used with locking mechanisms such that the socket is connected to the male end, and the drive shaft is connected to the female end. A socket locking mechanism coupled to the male end is enclosed by the keeper sleeve, and a driver locking mechanism coupled to the female end is enclosed by the quick change sleeve, when the socket retaining tool is in a relaxed position, thereby avoiding unwanted release of the locking mechanisms.

  • Patent number: 5994682
Abstract: An induction heating device having a pair of inductors in a sub-assembly connected by fluid conduits to a cooling apparatus and by electrical conductors to an inverter and impedance adjusting circuit has a quick disconnect terminal assembly arranged closely adjacent to the inductors. This permits the inductor sub-assembly to be quickly and easily disconnected from the conduits and conductors so that the inductor sub-assembly may be moved to a new location easily and quickly. A plurality of inductor subassemblies may be used with a single terminal assembly to provide an accelerated method of heating a series of items by successively moving the terminal assembly to a next inductor sub-assembly to begin heating and to then move the non-disconnected inductor assembly to a new location while the next inductor sub-assembly is operating.

  • Patent number: 5768794
Abstract: An electronic taper gauge system provides an elongate taper gauge member having a free end for insertion into a gap to be measured and a movable stop member for defining an insertion distance of the elongate member into the gap. Arranged between the movable stop member and the elongate member is a position sensor which emits a position signal to a conversion device which converts the position signal into a lateral dimension signal of the taper gauge. The conversion device transmits the lateral dimension signal to a data storage device for recording the gap dimension.

  • Patent number: 5529442
Abstract: A hole tapping device having a motor driven tapping tool with a bracing frame for resisting reverse torque on the motor frame caused by resistance of the rotation of the tapping tool within a bore being tapped. The bracing frame has adjustable arms which provide adjustment in the radial and angular direction and which clamp stationary protrusions on the workpiece with rollers to hold the bracing frame against rotation in both directions about the axis of the bore. The adjustments of the frame provide great geometric versatility. The rollers provide for a smooth translation of the motor and bracing frame along the axis of the bore being tapped. A single coupler and a series of inserts allow for a series of differently sized tap tools to be driven through the use of a single coupler.

  • Patent number: 5480272
Abstract: A thread cutting tool which can be configured to cut threads in a variety of bore sizes using universal thread cutting chasers mounted in select radial extension such as by using variable length tool blocks which are themselves interfit within retaining slots in the head portion of the tool, or by providing alternate radial position notches an the head portion for mounting the cutting chasers. By using variable tool blocks mounted to the head portion of the tool, universal thread cutting chasers having a preselected thread pitch can be utilized for multiple bore sizes, thus saving the expense of providing chasers or head portions corresponding to each bore size. Alternately, by providing alternate radial position notches in the head portion for mounting the cutting chasers, a single tool can be used for different bore sizes, such as for undertaking a start thread cut in a bore and then undertaking a finish thread cut in the pre-cut bore using an alternate radial position for the chasers.

  • Patent number: 5402694
Abstract: A rod turning tool having a first sleeve with at least one open end and having an internal thread and an external tapering with second and third sleeves surrounding the first sleeve and arranged on uphill and downhill sides of the external tapering, the second and third sleeves having compatible taperings on the inside diameters thereof to be flush with the external tapering of the first sleeve, and a plurality of fasteners connecting the second and third sleeves axially. A tightening of the fasteners drawing the second and third sleeves together, sliding along the external tapering which acts to compress the first sleeve against a rod threaded into the internal threads of the first sleeve. In an alternate embodiment, the second sleeve is located against the external tapering and the third sleeve is fixed in axial position by an external flange of the first sleeve and the plurality of fasteners draws the second sleeve toward the fixed third sleeve to compress the first sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5372055
Abstract: A tool for rotating a rod is provided which is formed of three members. A first member is formed as a sleeve and has an internal opening size to receive the rod. This sleeve has a tapered, portion which is placed over the rod. A second member, which may also be in the form of a sleeve slips onto the first sleeve and engages against the tapered portion. A third member sleeve is axially fixed to one of the first and second members and engages against the other of the members. A mechanical arrangement is provided to selectively urge the third sleeve apart from the other members against which it engages in order to move the second member and the first member relative to one another along the tapered surfaces to collapse the end of the first member engaging the rod to increase the gripping force of the first member with the rod. The first member has a shaped contour for receiving a torque applying device, such as a wrench, so that the first member can be rotated, thus rotating the rod.

  • Patent number: 5253556
Abstract: A tool for rotating a rod is provided which is formed of three sleeves. A first sleeve has an internal opening size to receive the rod and has an outwardly flared, slitted end which is placed over the rod. A second sleeve slips on to the first sleeve and engages against the flared end. A third sleeve slips over the first sleeve and engages against the second sleeve and is locked axially to the first sleeve. The third sleeve carries longitudinally extendable members which can be used to press against the second sleeve pushing it along the flared portion of the first sleeve to collapse the end of the first sleeve engaging the rod to increase the gripping force of the first sleeve with the rod. The first sleeve has an external contour for receiving a torque applying device, such as a wrench, so that the first sleeve can be rotated, thus rotating the rod.
