    Abstract: A surgical device includes a jaw portion and a shaft portion that is pivotably coupled to the jaw portion. The shaft portion defines an interior space having first and second openings on respective radially-opposite sides of the shaft portion. A camera assembly is coupled to the shaft portion and is moveable between a first position, in which the camera assembly is positioned within the interior space of the shaft portion, and, for example, second and third positions, in which the camera assembly extends through a respective one of the first and second radially-opposite openings of the shaft portion. In this manner, the camera assembly may be positionable on, and may provide imaging data of, either side of the surgical device, irrespective of which lateral side the jaw portion is articulated relative to the shaft portion.

The surgical device may include a shaft portion coupled to a proximal end of the jaw portion and at least one motor configured to rotate the jaw portion relative to the shaft portion, to move the jaw portion relative to the shaft portion, move the first jaw relative to the second jaw and move the surgical member within the second jaw. The surgical member may be prevented from moving within the second jaw unless the first jaw is in a closed position relative to the second jaw. The attachment includes an axial rod which is coupleable to the electromechanical driver device, and which is selectively rotateable in accordance with the action of the electromechanical driver device. The rod is also threaded in opposing orientations at either end thereof. A pair of nuts are mounted to the rod, and specifically on the opposing threads. The rod and nuts are disposed within an axial track which permits the rod to turn, but constrains the rotational motion of the nuts, thereby permitting the nuts to move axially along the threadings of the rod when the rod turns. Attached to the nuts are a series of jointed spokes which are coupled to a flexible tubular shroud which surrounds the entire assembly.

    Abstract: A stapler attachment for use with an electromechanical device driver comprises a staple holding member which is spring mounted to a staple closing member, which is, in turn, mounted to a threaded driver element concentrically mounted about a threaded shaft such that staple closing member and the staple holding member can be advanced and retracted along a track within a housing. A staple is advanced by the rotation of the threaded shaft until the staple holding member is stopped against an opening lip formed in an opening at the distal staple discharging end of the housing. At this position, the prongs of the staple have been advanced out of the distal staple discharging end and into the tissue to be joined. The staple closing member continues to advance as the spring between the staple holding member and the staple closing member compresses. This advancement permits the staple closing member to deform the staple into a closed D-shape conformation.

The bias can be overcome by a carriage motor mechanically communicating with the pulley carriage to cause the flexible shaft to go limp.
