Patent number: 8718555Abstract: Using bearer channels for wireless nodes includes initiating communication among the wireless nodes that include a node and one or more neighbor nodes. An adaptive channel operable to communicate messages between the node and the neighbor nodes is established. One or more bearer channels are selected. The one or more neighbor nodes are notified of the one or more selected bearer channels using the adaptive channel. The node and the neighbor nodes communicate over the bearer channels.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 2006Date of Patent: May 6, 2014Assignee: Powerwave Cognition, Inc.Inventors: Scott Y. Patent number: 8300615Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed herein for synchronizing network time in a mobile ad-hoc network (MANET). Each node in the MANET may be synchronized with all of its neighbors for effective communications. More specifically, a local timing reference may be adjusted according to measured errors in incoming control packets so that time slotted transmissions can be scheduled without collisions with other nodes. The method and system is a low overhead protocol that only requires a small amount of data attached to each scheduled transmission avoiding the requirement for separate messaging. This may reduce the overhead of maintaining the MANET providing additional efficiency and robustness.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 2011Date of Patent: October 30, 2012Assignee: Powerwave Cognition, Inc.Inventors: Gregory Clark Copeland, Scott Y. Publication number: 20120106428Abstract: In embodiments of the present invention improved capabilities are described for a mobile broadband routable internet (MBRI) providing for carrier-grade, networked, broadband, IP-routable communication among a plurality of mobile devices, where the mobile devices may represent a plurality of nodes that are linked together through a mobile ad-hoc network (MANET). Mobile devices may operate as peers in a peer-to-peer network, with full IP routing capabilities enabled within each mobile device, thereby allowing routing of IP-based traffic, including deployment of applications, to the mobile device without need for infrastructure conventionally required for mobile ad hoc networks, such as cellular telephony infrastructure. Full IP-routing to mobile devices may allow seamless integration to the fixed Internet, such as through fixed or mobile access points, such as for backhaul purposes.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 29, 2011Publication date: May 3, 2012Applicant: POWERWAVE COGNITION, INC.Inventors: Ludger Schlicht, Peter Atwal, Scott Y. Patent number: 7965671Abstract: In a Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET), each node calculates a bandwidth output value representative of data output requirements for the node relative to the transmit time slots available to the node. This value is shared with other nodes in the MANET and may be employed to more efficiently allocate channel usage among nodes as traffic demands and network topology change.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2008Date of Patent: June 21, 2011Assignee: Powerwave Cognition, Inc.Inventors: Arthur E. Patent number: 7948966Abstract: In a Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET), multi-metric information is gathered and applied to a cost-based route calculation. In particular, each node gathers resource metrics from neighboring of nodes, along with data rate and reliability information for data links to and from the node. This information is applied to a costing algorithm such as Dykstra' Open Shortest Path First algorithm to obtain routes through the network. This approach may be adapted with suitable modifications to use with unicast traffic or with a multicast forwarding group.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2008Date of Patent: May 24, 2011Assignee: Powerwave Cognition, Inc.Inventors: Timothy J.
