  • Patent number: 11285549
Abstract: A reversible cutting insert for milling including opposing and identically or substantially identically top and bottom surfaces interconnected by a continuous peripheral side surface, with a median plane located between the top and bottom surfaces and intersecting the side surface, and an insert axis perpendicular to the median plane about which the cutting insert is indexable. Each top and bottom surface is limited by a circumferential cutting edge intersecting the side surface, the circumferential cutting edge in a top view having the shape of a truncated equilateral triangle. Each circumferential cutting edge includes three analogous sets of cutting edges exhibiting three-fold rotational symmetry about the insert axis. A first cutting edge portion intersects a first support plane.

  • Patent number: 11060155
Abstract: A cemented carbide body includes WC in a metallic binder phase. The cemented carbide body has a bulk portion and a surface portion. The grain size of the WC in the surface portion is smaller than the grain size in the bulk portion of the body and this gives an increased surface hardness and an increased wear resistance. The median grain thickness, tg, of WC in the surface portion is 20-300 nm and the average grain size in the bulk portion is 0.5-8 ?m. A method of surface hardening a cemented carbide body is also provided.

  • Patent number: 10549360
Abstract: An indexable cutting insert has a first corner edge forming a front tip of a cutting edge portion configured to project furthest in the direction of an axis of rotation of an end mill tool receiving the insert. A major cutting edge is descending to come closer to the lower surface of the insert along its extension away from the first corner edge. The minor cutting edge extends from the first corner edge while descending from a point of the cutting edge portion most distant to the lower surface all the way to an inner corner of the insert and has a length of 80%-95% of the length of the major cutting edge including a second corner edge in a side elevation view of the cutting insert.

  • Patent number: 10427224
Abstract: A drill includes drill body and peripheral insert having a radial cutting edge extending generally in a direction of a radius of the drill body, and a central insert. The peripheral insert includes a rake face including a plurality of chipbreaker protrusions. A first angle measured between a line tangent to forward ends of the plurality of chipbreaker protrusions and the central axis of the drill body extending toward the shank end is an acute angle. Also a peripheral insert is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10144069
Abstract: Milling inserts having surfaces designed for supporting the insert relative to a milling cutter body, and a milling tool are provided. The milling insert has a first end surface, a second end surface, and a side surface extending between the first end surface and the second end surface At least one cutting edge is defined by an intersection of at least one of the first end surface and the second end surface with the side surface. The at least one cutting edge includes a radiused component having a first end and a second end and first and second components at the first and the second ends of the radiused component, respectively. The first and second components are less curved than the radiused component. The side surface has at least one substantially V-shaped valley formed by first and second support surfaces.

  • Patent number: 8408847
Abstract: The present invention relates to cutting tools and, more particularly, to cutting tools using clampable cutting inserts. The cutting tool includes a toolholder including at least one insert-receiving pocket, the insert-receiving pocket including at least one side abutment surface. The cutting tool further includes a cutting insert comprising an insert body having at least one insert supporting surface and a clamping hole including a clamping surface defining at least part of a non-circular, substantially elliptical cone. The cutting tool further includes a clamp having a clamp surface adapted to contact the clamping surface at two contact points such that the at least one side abutment surface and the at least one insert supporting surface are secured in a contacting relationship.

  • Patent number: 7121772
Abstract: An indexable cutting insert for chip removal machining, the insert having a polygonal body having opposed lower and upper faces that are mutually interconnected by peripheral faces meeting at rounded corners, which are formed symmetrically with respect to upper face bisectors. The upper face includes a mid portion, which is positioned inside of a chip face. Intersections of the chip face and the peripheral face forming major cutting edges and corner cutting edges. The chip face comprises a row of protrusions. A pair of oblong corner protrusions are provided at each corner area of the chip face. The pair is located symmetrically with respect to an associated bisector of the upper face. Each oblong corner protrusion has a longitudinal axis and at least two peak areas. The peak areas are positioned in line, essentially on the longitudinal axis of each oblong corner protrusion.
