The slot includes a first portion extending in a circumferential direction across a width of the brake portion and second and third portions extending across a length of the brake portion. The slot further includes a fourth portion angled with respect to the second portion and a fifth portion angled with respect to the third portion, each of the fourth and fifth portions extending in a circumferential direction, the fourth and fifth portions of the slot intersecting the second and third portions, respectively.

In other embodiments, the film dispensing apparatus includes a brake portion found in the interior of the holding member that is operatively associated with an interior holding surface such that when a user presses onto the interior holding surface with sufficient force, it causes the brake portion to flex and contact the rotating member, resulting in the film being dispensed with more tension as the user pulls on the apparatus to unwind the film.
