Patent number: 6850463Abstract: The invention is directed to a borehole logging apparatus for deep well drilling, with a signal transmitter for transmitting measured data obtained while drilling from a borehole through the drilling fluid to the earth's surface, and with an elongated housing which is adapted for insertion in the drilling fluid conduit of a drill string. Accommodated in the housing is a flow regulator with a control piston, which controls the cross-section of opening of a bypass opening in response to the pressure differential generated by a flow restrictor and in response to the force of a spring in such manner that the part of the drilling fluid current fed to the signal transmitter through the flow restrictor is maintained substantially constant, and the remaining excess drilling fluid current is routed to the drilling fluid conduit via the bypass opening.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2002Date of Patent: February 1, 2005Assignee: Precision Drilling Technology Services GmbHInventor: Helmut Winnacker

Publication number: 20040200639Abstract: In a process for generating signals which can be transmitted from above ground to a receiver located below ground in a well, the volume flow of a fluid pump (1) arranged above ground, which conveys fluid from a fluid tank (8) through the interior of a drill string to the bottom of a well, is temporally changed. The temporal change of the volume flow of the fluid pump (1) is caused by a change of the drive speed of the fluid pump (1), with the drive speed not falling below a minimum speed for maintaining a minimum volume flow.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 6, 2004Publication date: October 14, 2004Applicant: Precision Drilling Technology Service GmbHInventor: Hermann Jungerink

Accommodated in the housing is a flow regulator with a control piston, which controls the cross-section of opening of a bypass opening in response to the pressure differential generated at an entrance opening of the housing and the force of a spring, in such manner that the part of the drilling fluid current delivered to the housing conduit, which is fed to the signal transmitter, is maintained substantially constant, and the remaining excess drilling fluid current is routed to the drilling fluid conduit via the bypass opening.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 5, 2003Publication date: February 12, 2004Applicant: Precision Drilling Technology Services GmbHInventor: Helmut Winnacker

Patent number: 6636159Abstract: In a borehole logging apparatus (1) for deep well drillings having a device for transmitting measured data obtained while drilling from a borehole through the drilling fluid to the earth's surface, there is arranged in the upper end of a housing (2) a signal transmitter (13) comprising a beaker-shaped rotor (24) and a stator sleeve (25) surrounding said rotor. Fluid impinges on the signal transmitter (13) through a central feed pipe (15) surrounded by an exchangeable bypass ring (14) to which the complete current of drilling fluid is routed through a filter pipe (3) and through which part of the drilling fluid current is routed back into the drill string (6). From a set of bypass rings (14) of different bypass cross sections it is possible to select one suited for the particular on-site conditions and insert it into the logging apparatus (1) in order to obtain a significant signal through the signal transmitter (13).Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2000Date of Patent: October 21, 2003Assignee: Precision Drilling Technology Services GmbHInventor: Helmut Winnacker
