Abstract: An improved identification band such as a wristband is provided with preprinted adhesive labels having a correlated unique identification code on the identification band and each of the labels. A label portion is separable from the wristband portion such that the wristband may be applied to a person or object to be identified. The label portion may be affixed to a specimen vial or other object to be identified as having a correlation with the person or object wearing the wristband. Individual labels are separable from the label portion, and the band portion in certain embodiments, so as to be applicable to other objects to be correlated to the person or object.
Abstract: An improved radio frequency identification (RFID) tag and related reader system and process are provided, wherein the RFID tag includes an on-board battery for enhanced signal transmission range, relatively rapid signal transmission speed, and optimized completion of a data transaction between the tag and a reader. The RFID tag further includes a power management system for activating the tag battery on an as-needed basis, and for thereupon enabling limited portions of the tag circuitry as required for a specific communication protocol, thereby conserving battery power and prolonging battery service life. In one preferred form, the battery is integrated with an antenna structure of single or dual mode with respect to frequency or type. This combination battery-antenna may be designed for recharging from a source of ambient energy.
Abstract: A closure mechanism receiving aperture presents a substantially contiguous, uninterrupted planar surface on a flexible medium, primarily for use with identification devices, i.e., wristbands. The aperture does not interrupt the printable area so that printer ink may be printed over the aperture without passing through. The inventive aperture also does not produce waster material or chads which can jam or foul-up a printer. An inventive wristband includes both snap closure and adhesive closure mechanisms that can be used at the same time.

Abstract: A multi-part form includes a wristband with related tags and labels. The tags are configured for mounting on the wristband after the wristband has been secured to a person of object to be identified. The multi-part form is also configured with a wristband portion separate from a plurality of utility groups, each of which is separate from the other, by a street devoid of media layer. The layers that comprise the multi-part form are preferably solvent resistant so as to make the identification products more durable and longer lasting.

Abstract: An identification medium is optimized for displaying visible and excitable indicia. The medium includes a substrate having a color change layer, such as a direct thermal layer, and a patterned excitable layer placed over the color change layer. The color change layer produces the visible indicia. The excitable layer produces the excitable indicia. The excitable indicia is not easily readable under ambient light but becomes more easily readable under directed radiation, i.e., UV or IR light.
Abstract: An identification device in the form of a wristband, labels, tags or cards, including a clear thermal sensitive coating laminated between a clear plastic coating and a liner ply having colored regions or printed matter. The colored regions or printed matter is visible through the clear thermal sensitive coating and clear plastic coating until the thermal sensitive coating is activated and becomes selectively opaque. The clear plastic coating having a uniform thickness allows for reliable thermal printing on the thermal sensitive coating with the clear plastic coating in place.
Abstract: An identification wristband includes a liner layer permanently affixed to one end thereof, which covers an adhesive whereby the wristband may be secured to a person or object in a looped fashion securing the ends of the wristband together. The liner releasably covers a portion of the adhesive and is permanently attached to an adjacent portion of the adhesive. In this way, the liner is not separable from the wristband. The liner includes a first portion which is not adhered to the wristband to allow for ease of separation. The liner layer also includes a second portion that is not adhered to the wristband to ensure against accidentally exposed adhesive.

Abstract: A printable identification medium, namely wristbands, labels, tags, or sheets including combinations thereof comprises a polymeric substrate bonded to a printed media layer. The printable media layer includes a core layer with an image receiving layer on one side and an adhesive layer on an opposite side. The media layer is constructed such that the identification medium and printed indicia is durable against abrasions, water, soap, hand sanitizers and other solvents in the environment. The core layer may be constructed of polymeric compounds, synthetic paper compounds, or cellulose paper. The image receiving layer is optimized to receive printable identification information thereon from a standard printer.
Abstract: A thermally activated, multi-color identification device having a substrate, an adhesive layer and a thermal activation layer underlying a protective coating. The thermal activation layer includes multiple regions of multi-colored thermal sensitive coating to achieve multi-color thermal printing on a single media. Alternatively, the thermal activation layer may be mono-color with regions of multi-colored ink underlying the thermal activation layer. The protective coating may be a polymer or varnish to protect the thermal activation layer from environmental hazards. The clear protective coating permits uniform activation of the thermal activation layer while protecting the same.
