    Abstract: The present invention is primarily directed to a long-bone endoprosthesis comprising an essentially spherical head region that is connected to a narrowed stem section, wherein the head region is characterized in having a roughened outer surface. The invention also provides methods for treating fractures of the neck region of a long-bone in a patient in need of such treatment, wherein said methods are characterized by the preservation of a long-bone head shell.
