  • Patent number: 4471755
Abstract: A fireplace having one or more conduits for directing outside combustion air into the firebox with a movable member adjacent a conduit outlet for normally closing said conduit and having either open or closed positions dependent upon the existence of a pressure difference across said member. A pressure difference caused by a fire in the firebox results in a higher pressure on the side of the member opposite the firebox to cause the member to move to open position. Operating structure is provided for positively closing the member and with the operating structure being operable from the front of the fireplace.

  • Patent number: 4285326
Abstract: A prebuilt fireplace construction for installation in a living space includes a housing, a firebox within the housing with an open forward side adapted to be sealed by glass doors, an outlet for combustion gases, an inlet for combustion air and has a base structure supporting the housing through which an inlet duct for combustion air extends. One end of the combustion air duct is connected to the combustion air inlet. The other end of the duct may connect to an optionally used air intake conduit so that exterior air may be delivered to the combustion air inlet, or receive air from a room interior which is drawn into the firebox through the base structure. A damper within the duct permits adjustment of external air flow into the firebox from either source and can be positioned to close the combustion air duct to prevent drafts when the fireplace is not in use.

  • Patent number: 4184475
Abstract: A fireplace having passage means for directing outside combustion air into the firebox with a pair of outlet openings for said combustion air and each having an intake damper movable between open and closed positions at the outlet end of said passage means with operating structure for positioning of said intake dampers including handle means disposed at the front of the fireplace.

  • Patent number: 4163443
Abstract: A door latch mechanism, mountable in an oven for engagement with an oven door, includes a base, a latch plate carried on the base by a pair of flanged guide rollers carried on the base and cooperating with a pair of guide slots in the latch plate, and a yieldable over-center urging means pivotally engaged with the latch plate and reciprocably received by a support on the base, the latch plate being carried by the base for movement between an extended position and a retracted position corresponding to open and closed positions, respectively, of the oven door. The mechanism, in one embodiment, further includes a lock for securing the latch plate in its retracted position and a thermally responsive interlock for retaining the lock in a locked position when the oven is operative.

  • Patent number: 4153036
Abstract: A prebuilt fireplace construction for installation in a building structure, such as a mobile home. The construction includes a firebox having an open side and a combustion gas outlet adapted to be placed in fluid communication with a flue. A transparent door is provided for substantially sealing the open side and a housing at least partially surrounds the firebox in close proximity thereto to define an air space therebetween. The air space has a relatively low inlet and a relatively high outlet. A conduit isolated from the air space is provided and is adapted to be placed in fluid communication with a source of outside air. The conduit opens into the firebox to provide combustion air. A baffle is interposed between the opening of the conduit into th firebox and the combustion area thereof.

  • Patent number: 4117827
Abstract: A prebuilt fireplace construction for installation in a building structure. The construction includes a firebox having an open forward side and an outlet for combustion gases and a housing at least partially surrounding the firebox with the combustion gas outlet extending through the top of the housing. A rotatable damper is disposed within the housing and is controlled externally by a rotatable shaft extending forwardly through the housing which is engaged by an external actuator operable from the front of the fireplace. An inlet conduit for combustion air is built into the housing for the fireplace beneath the level of the firebox for supply of combustion air to the firebox in the event doors are later added to close off the firebox.
