  • Patent number: 4282554
Abstract: An enclosure for a sealed disc drive includes a bottom support member and a top cover for mating with the bottom support member. The bottom support member includes a filter mounted on the inner surface and in a peripheral position thereof, and air guide means for directing air flow created by a spinning disc through the filter, the cover includes a second breather filter through which outside air can enter the enclosure. Air cleanliness within the enclosure is improved by providing a positive air pressure differential between the space below an enclosed disc and in the proximity of the spindle bearing seals and the space above the enclosed disc. The positive air pressure differential can be created by obstructing air flow below the disc.

  • Patent number: 4260208
Abstract: A support frame for electronic equipment such as a magnetic disc drive which can function also as a manufacturing fixture. The frame includes front and rear vertical members which each comprise a generally rectangularly shaped rod. Rods are attached to the sides and the bottom of the front and rear members, and brackets are attached to the side rods for supportably receiving the magnetic disc drive. Advantageously, the fixture facilitates air flow around the electronic equipment when housed in a storage cabinet.

  • Patent number: 4237504
Abstract: A limit stop assembly for use with a linear actuator in a sealed magnetic disc drive which establishes inner and outer limits of travel and provides shock absorption for the pickup heads and carriage at the limits of travel. The assembly is mounted on an adjustable seat in a wall of the actuator. A first stop member is threadably attached to the seat, a second stop member is positioned about the first member, and a spring yieldably biases the second stop member away from the stop surface of the first member. A cup shaped member is positioned about the stop surface of the first member and is yieldably biased by the spring. The first stop member extends through a hole in the second stop member, and a shoulder of the first member limits the travel of the second stop member. Adjustment of the stop positions is accomplished by movement of the seat and the first member within the seat.
