  • Patent number: 8818710
Abstract: The present invention is a computer-implemented system for providing guidance information to aid a user in traveling along an off-road route. This system assumes that the route has already been determined. Also, it is assumed that the user's position and orientation can be determined, for example using existing techniques such as the global positioning system (GPS). The present invention uses a Look-Ahead-Point Finder (100) to find a point, which we refer to as a look-ahead point, located on the route ahead of the user's current location. A Guidance Message Constructor (102) and a Guidance Presenter (106) are used to present the user with guidance information directing him towards the look-ahead point. If the user is already headed towards the look-ahead point, then a Turn Analyzer (108) is used to search the route in order to find the next turn location.

  • Patent number: 8374792
Abstract: A system, method and computer program product for efficiently generating on- and off-road travel routes using multi-resolution maps including a map generator (108), map database (106), route generator (100), heuristic generator (102), and search envelope factor generator (104). The map generator (108) converts input raster and vector map data into output multi-resolution raster map data suitable for routing and stores it in the map database (106). The route generator (100) uses the map database (106) to produce a route at a coarse zoom level and then regenerate the route at progressively higher zoom levels. The heuristic generator (102) penalizes high resolution routes that deviate too far from one or more low resolution routes. The search envelope factor generator (104) computes this penalty based on the distance from a given search graph node to the low resolution routes.

  • Publication number: 20110098914
Abstract: A computer-implemented system and method for generating a tactical route to a battlefield destination including an Intervisibility Analyzer for analyzing propagation of optical lines of sight in a geographic terrain, a Speed Analyzer for analyzing speed of travelers in the geographic terrain, and a Route Generator for generating routes that facilitate tactical movement. The Intervisibility Analyzer and Speed Analyzer are used by a Cost Generator to determine tactical movement costs in geographic terrain. The Route Generator includes a Cost Evaluator for evaluating the cost of an edge during route generation.

  • Patent number: 7756635
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for generating and presenting off-road travel routes based on terrain and obstruction analysis. The method includes a Threat Analyzer (100) for assessing threats that may impede progress, a Graph Builder (102) for constructing a graph representing an individual's environment, a Route Generator (104) for generating a route that avoids the threats, and a Route Presenter (106) for guiding the individual along the route. The Threat Analyzer (100) includes an Obstruction Analyzer (202) for detecting obstructions in aerial imagery. The Graph Builder (102) includes a Cost Evaluator (712) that takes into account traversal speeds for individuals across various types of terrain. The Route Presenter (106) overlays the route on aerial imagery and provides real-time guidance as the individual traverses the route.

  • Patent number: 7711149
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for indicating positions of and directions to battlefield entities in a soldier's head-mounted display using annotated arrows which indicate units both in and out of the soldier's field of view. The method includes a Unit Identifier (100) for associating units in aerial imagery with soldiers on the battlefield, a Commander Presenter (102) for presenting the aerial imagery and unit positions to a commander, a Unit Annotator (104) for enabling commanders to identify unknown units, and a Soldier Presenter (106) for identifying and labeling units that appear in a soldier's head-mounted display.
