  • Patent number: 5472413
Abstract: Knee and elbow braces arranged to fit all sizes of persons, Each brace is formed of a generally planar elastomeric, e.g., fabric-covered-neoprene, base member and a generally planar elastomeric, e.g., fabric-covered-neoprene, spider member attached to the base member. The base member includes two upper mounting straps, and two lower mounting straps to mount the brace on the person's joint. Each of the upper mounting straps is arranged to be wrapped in opposite directions around the limb above the joint to be protected. The lower mounting straps are arranged to be wrapped in opposite directions around the limb below the joint. The mounting straps include VELCRO.RTM. fasteners to hold the straps in place. When so wrapped the straps define cut away areas to prevent bunching of the material making up the brace when the joint is flexed. The spider member includes two upper and two lower tension straps which are arranged to be releasably secured by VELCRO.RTM.

  • Patent number: 5472414
Abstract: A one-size-fits-all ankle brace has a base member which is a unitary piece of elastomeric material, e.g., plush fabric covered neoprene, having an upper portion including a pair of mounting straps, and a lower portion including a pair of mounting straps and a pair of short elastic tension straps attached to the lower portion adjacent respective lower mounting straps. The base member can be folded to form a jacket, wherein the upper mounting straps of the base member are wrapped around the ankle and the leg just above the ankle and the lower mounting straps of the base member wrapped around the ankle, arch, and instep. VELCRO.RTM. fastening components hold the mounting straps in place to secure the brace on the ankle. The upper mounting straps overlap each other from opposite directions than the lower mounting straps. The tension straps are criss-crossed across the jacket and are releasably secured to the upper mounting straps by VELCRO.RTM. fastening components.

  • Patent number: 5168577
Abstract: A sleeve with the horizontal seam worn on the medial side of the elbow or knee and a vertical seam worn on the lateral side of the joint disclosed. Placing the seams on opposite sides of the sleeve prevents bunching of material on the medial side opposite the knee or elbow when the limb is bent. The vertical seam on the lateral side of the knee or elbow reduces irritation in the particularly sensitive areas on the medial side which would occur if the vertical seam were on the medial side of the limb. The elbow sleeve is made of a double laminate with an elastomeric material such as neoprene on the outside and a polymer material such as nylon on the inside. The outside surface on the elbow brace is patterned to produce a roughened textured surface so the ball may be carried in the crook of the arm without slippage. The knee brace is made of a triple laminate with elastomeric material such as neoprene sandwiched between two layers of nylon.
