Abstract: A method for skipping empty folders when navigating a file system. When a parent folder only contains a single child folder and a user is trying to view the contents of the parent folder, the user will be directed to the contents of the child folder rather than the contents of the parent folder. When multiple nested folders are present in a particular path, all nested folders containing only a single child folder will be skipped and the user will be taken directly to the first nested folder in the hierarchy that contains multiple data items, a single file, or no data.

Abstract: A way of sharing a set of data where each data item is stored at a different file path. The data items may be files or folders that reside on different remote storage servers or within the same file system. One or more data items in the set of data do not share a common root folder. Data items in the set of data that share a common root folder are stored amongst other data items in the common root folder that do not belonging to the set of data items to be shared. A single URL or link is generated to provide immediate access to the set of data to recipients of the URL or link.

A system may include a client application program stored on a client computer, a network, and a server software program on a destination computer. Embodiments may include compression, encryption, or both, performed by the client application program. Files may be divided into blocks, and metadata may include locations of blocks. Files may be restored from the destination computer to the source computer. Files storage locations on the destination computer may be mapped to the client computer to appear as a virtual hard drive for convenient access by a user.
