Patent number: 12110261Abstract: The present invention relates to free radical reaction methods in which low molecular weight, C2 to C6, unsaturated organic compounds such as ethylene and/or propylene are reacted with low molecular weight, C1 to C15, preferably C1 to C10 saturated organic compounds to form low molecular weight, linear or branched C3 to C24, preferably C3 to C12 organic compounds. The present invention is based at least in part upon the concept of carrying out the free radical reaction in the presence of a typically low concentrations of the unsaturated reactant(s) in the reaction zone(s). By doing this, chain transfer mechanisms are more favored while chain extension mechanisms are less favored. In some embodiments, principles of the present invention are helpful to create conditions under which chain transfer to form more stable, secondary or tertiary branched radicals is favored over olefin addition via chain extension.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 2019Date of Patent: October 8, 2024Assignee: Keen Process Technologies, LLCInventor: Brian T. Patent number: 10392590Abstract: A method and system for distilling alcohol in an alcohol production process is disclosed. The method can include fermenting a mixture of water and milled grain to produce alcohol-laden beer, which can be distilled in a beer column maintained at a subatmospheric pressure to produce a vapor, primarily including alcohol, and whole stillage. Stillage is separated from the whole stillage. Water is evaporated from the separated stillage to produce first-concentrated stillage and first effect steam. Water from the first-concentrated stillage is evaporated with heat from the first effect steam to produce second effect steam. In one embodiment, second effect steam can be used to supply sufficient heat to a side stripper for distilling the alcohol-laden beer. In another embodiment, the method can include generating steam from one or more steam generator to supply sufficient heat to the beer column for distilling the alcohol-laden beer.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 2019Date of Patent: August 27, 2019Assignee: Fluid Quip Process Technologies, LLCInventors: Neal Jakel, John Kwik, Michael Hora

Patent number: 10118107Abstract: A method and system for distilling alcohol in an alcohol production process is disclosed. The method can include fermenting a mixture of water and milled grain to produce alcohol-laden beer, which can be distilled in a beer column maintained at a subatmospheric pressure to produce a vapor, primarily including alcohol, and whole stillage. Thin stillage is separated from the whole stillage. Water is evaporated from the separated thin stillage to produce first-concentrated thin stillage and at least a portion of first effect steam. Water from the first-concentrated thin stillage is evaporated with heat from the first effect steam to produce second-concentrated thin stillage and second effect steam. Water is evaporated from the second-concentrated thin stillage with heat from the second effect steam to third effect steam. At least a portion of the third effect steam is used to supply sufficient heat to the beer column for distilling the alcohol-laden beer.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2017Date of Patent: November 6, 2018Assignee: Fluid Quip Process Technologies, LLCInventors: John Kwik, Neal Jakel, Michael Hora

Patent number: 10119157Abstract: An improved dry grind system and method for producing a sugar stream from grains or similar carbohydrate sources and/or residues, such as for biofuel production. In particular, a sugar/carbohydrate stream, which includes a desired Dextrose Equivalent (DE) where DE describes the degree of conversion of starch to dextrose (aka glucose) and/or has had removed therefrom an undesirable amount of unfermentable components, can be produced after saccharification and prior to fermentation (or other sugar conversion process), with such sugar stream being available for biofuel production, e.g., alcohol production, or other processes. In addition, the systems and methods also can involve the removal of certain grain components, e.g., corn kernel components, including protein, oil and/or fiber, prior to fermentation or other conversion systems. In other words, sugar stream production and/or grain component separation occurs on the front end of the system and method.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 2016Date of Patent: November 6, 2018Assignee: Fluid Quip Process Technologies, LLCInventors: Neal Jakel, John Kwik, Michael Franko, Andrew Whalen

Patent number: 10066171Abstract: A continuous, hot vapor stripping process recovers base oil from used lubricating oils (ULO) containing lubricating oil boiling range material, with further refining using solvent extraction to produce a high quality base oil. The ULO is charged to a first stripping column along with a stripping vapor to vaporize lubricating oil boiling range components, which are fed to a second stripping column to separate diesel boiling range material from the lubricating oil boiling range components. A lubricating boiling range material is removed as a bottoms product and fed to a liquid-liquid extractor to produce a raffinate stream and an extract stream. The raffinate stream is fed to a raffinate distillation column, where a base oil product is recovered as a bottoms stream. The extract stream is fed to an extract distillation column, where an aromatic oil product is recovered as a bottoms stream.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 2014Date of Patent: September 4, 2018Assignee: Solvex Process Technologies LLCInventors: Christopher Joseph Lobue, Gary Lynn Hensley
