  • Publication number: 20030228205
Abstract: A device for fastening molded or extruded plastics parts, more particularly to an automotive body, by positive locking, comprising a base section joinable to the plastics part to be fastened and a retaining section adjoining the base section in a fastening direction. For forming a contact face, the retaining section protrudes beyond the base section perpendicular to the fastening direction. The base section and retaining section are made of elastically deformable material, at least the retaining section comprising a cavity. Such a device is characterized by the deformability of the retaining section being adaptable to the particular application in each case by relatively simple ways and means. The reason for this is that at least one elastically deformable partition is arranged in the cavity. The partition is configured as a through-hole extending in a normal direction perpendicular to the fastening direction and extends in a plane oriented perpendicular to the normal direction.

  • Patent number: 5983727
Abstract: An improved fluid pressure sensor/sensor array is shown to provide high resolution, sensitivity which can be easily controlled based on anticipated or detected pressure range, and reliable pressure measurements with easy installation and low fabrication cost. A fluid pressure sensor is provided having a substantially incompressible mounting structure with a cavity formed therein. An elastic membrane is attached to said mounting structure and across said cavity, separating the cavity from the fluid to be measured. At least one non-contact transducer is attached to the mounting structure in the cavity to detect deflection at a selected plurality of regions on the membrane. The sensitivity and pressure range of the sensor can be chosen by preselecting the elasticity of the membrane, stretching the membrane across the cavity under a preselected tension, maintaining a predetermined reference pressure in the cavity, and/or actively controlling the membrane tension.

  • Patent number: 5936362
Abstract: A control system for remotely controlling the application of electric power to a plurality of electric apparatuses includes a radio transmitting device at a central location, and a radio receiving device and a control unit at each electrical apparatus location. Programming signals designating the operating protocol or mode and the location of the electrical apparatus are transmitted by a radio programming signal to the control unit associated with each electrical apparatus. Subsequently, timing reference signals are transmitted to the control units of all electrical apparatus. Each control unit interprets and responds to the timing signals in accordance with previously received programming signals to control the application of electric power to the electrical apparatus in accordance with a predetermined operating protocol.

  • Patent number: 5898384
Abstract: A control system for remotely controlling the application of electric power to a plurality of electrical apparatuses (10) includes a radio transmitting device (20) at a central location, and a radio receiving device (22) and a control unit (16) at each electrical apparatus location. During set-up of an electrical apparatus, programming signals designating the operating protocol or mode and the location of the electrical apparatus are transmitted by a radio programming signal to the control unit (16) associated with each electrical apparatus. Subsequently, timing reference signals containing a multiple-digit computer generated code designating the time of day and the time of sunrise and sunset on a particular day within particular latitudinal zones are transmitted by radio to the control units (16) of all electrical apparatus (10).

  • Patent number: 5850344
Abstract: A medication dispensing and timing system includes a central monitoring computer which generates and sends an address-specific medication prompting message in accordance with a prescribed medication dispensing schedule over a two-way paging system to a communicator carried by a patient. The communicator includes receiver circuitry which responds to the prompt message to generate a display and audible alarm to alert the patient. Upon the patient acknowledging the message by actuating a switch on the communicator transmitter circuitry within the pager sends a reply message to the monitoring computer. In the event that a reply message is not received within a predetermined time period following the dispensing event, the computer initiates an alternative communication procedure which includes telephone calls to 1) the patient, 2) his doctor, 3) his care provider, or 4) an emergency contact.

  • Patent number: 5703786
Abstract: A medication dispensing and timing system includes a central monitoring computer which generates and sends a periodic time reference message over a two-way paging system to a plurality of patient communicators carried by respective patients. Each communicator includes sufficient memory to store the individual medication schedule of the particular patient, and processing circuitry which utilizes the time reference to interrogate the memory and generate a display and audible alarm to alert the patient when medication is to be taken. Upon the patient acknowledging the prompt, the communicator sends a reply message over the paging network to the central monitoring computer. Only in the event that a reply message is not received by the monitoring computer within a predetermined time period following the dispensing event, the computer initiates a procedure which includes an address-specific follow-up prompt message to the particular patient communicator.

  • Patent number: 4044503
Abstract: In a window construction of the type incorporating particularly operating sash or sashes, and in certain embodiments an operating sash in conjunction with a fixed sash, a perimeter frame surrounds the composite of sashes, and supports an intermediate frame that is arranged between each pair of adjacent sashes. The perimeter frame is constructed of semi-tubular like structure, and that portion of the perimeter frame surrounding the exteriorly opening operating sash includes a formed shoulder that cooperates to form a sealing contact with face flanges integrally connecting to the framework of the operating sash. Where a pair of operating sashes are arranged adjacently within the perimeter frame and intermediate frame, the formed shoulders contact the sash flanges when said sashes are closed, while the back of the sashes exposes a surface that retains a sealing contact with the proximate rear flanges of the perimeter frame when said sashes are maintained in closed position.
