  • Patent number: 6547422
Abstract: An illuminating module includes a first reflector having a curved first reflector surface, a reflector opening and a first focal point, and a light source disposed in the first reflector at the first focal point. A second reflector is mounted on a surrounding edge of the first reflector to configure the opening with shielded and unshielded portions, and has a second reflector surface facing the first reflector surface. A portion of the light rays from the light source which radiates toward the first reflector and which is reflected thereby toward the shielded portion is reflected by the second reflector surface back to the light source so as to be able to combine with the light rays that are reflected by the first reflector for passage through the unshielded portion.

  • Patent number: 6533427
Abstract: An illuminating device includes a light guiding pipe confining a passage, a reflector mounted at a light input end of the passage, and a quarter-wavelength plate and a reflective polarizer which are disposed in sequence relative to the passage. The reflector reflects light that travels from the light output end to the light input end back to the light output end. The polarizer allows light of a first polarization state to pass therethrough while reflecting light of a second polarization state back into the passage via the light output end, whereupon the light of the second polarization state is converted by the quarter-wavelength plate into the light of the first polarization state for passage through the polarizer.

  • Patent number: 6527420
Abstract: An illuminating module includes two spaced-apart light sources, two hemispherical reflectors, two parabolic reflectors and two planar reflectors. Each of the light sources is disposed at a common focal point of one of the hemispherical reflectors and one of the parabolic reflectors. Each of the parabolic reflectors faces a respective one of the hemispherical reflectors in one direction, and confronts a respective one of the planar reflectors in the other direction such that light rays from each of the light sources which radiate toward the respective hemispherical reflector and the respective parabolic reflector are directed to the respective planar reflector so as to be subsequently reflected to travel in parallel lines parallel to an optical axis.

  • Patent number: 6508571
Abstract: In an illuminating apparatus for a projection display, light from a plurality of light sources converge at a respective focal point that coincides with an input side of a corresponding light pipe integrator. The light pipe integrators convert the light incident on the input sides thereof into evenly distributed light that are radiated at output sides thereof and that pass through a principal condenser lens before reaching a plane of a liquid crystal display panel of the projection display.
