Abstract: A method for treating a piece of wood impregnates the piece of wood with a water repellent, wherein the water repellent is solid at ambient temperatures. The method includes the steps of providing a piece of wood to be treated; heating the piece of wood for a predetermined period of time, the piece of wood being heated at a temperature A; subsequently immersing at least a portion of the piece of wood in a bath of liquefied water repellent, the bath being at a temperature B, for a predetermined period of time. Thereafter the piece of wood is removed from the bath and allowed to cool. The temperature A is above 100° C. and the temperature B is below 100° C. but above a liquefying point for the water repellent, and a differential between temperatures A and B is at least 60° C.

Abstract: A hardwood floor used for making trailers in the transportation industry is treated, at least for a portion thereof, with a water-based wood preservative. The preservative is preferably a borate-based preservative. When the floor is provided with a steel plate at a rear thereof, the wood preservative located in the vicinity of the steel plate prevents the formation of fungi and increases the useful life of the floor.

Each plank has a length substantially equal to the length of the floor and a width that is less than the width of the floor. Each plank has first and second side surfaces and are arranged side by side so that a first side surface of one plank faces a second side surface of an adjacent plank, a joint region being formed at an area where the first side surface meets the second side surface. Each plank consists of at least two rows of boards, and each board consists of a plurality of segments joined end-to-end to one another by shaped coupling portions and side by side along a glue line; so that each of the at least two rows are longitudinally offset from an adjacent row, and a glue line of one row is offset from a glue line from an adjacent row.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for simultaneously pressing together longitudinally a plurality of individual strips of wood, each strip being provided with a finger joint at each end. The strips are jointed end to end in a number of rows to form a floorboard. The apparatus includes a mechanism for simultaneously applying longitudinal pressure to each of the rows of wood strips during the curing process. The resulting floorboard is mechanically improved, has greater protection against humidity and increases the fatigue resistance of the floorboard, which can be used for trailer floors or the like.
