Abstract: A tapping unit (1) includes a protection device (12) for permitting an axial retraction movement of a master screw (4) towards the interior of a casing (2) from a reference position into a first proximal backward position with a first defined penetration stroke during which a first elastic return device (13) constantly returns the master screw (4) to its reference position. The protection device (12) furthermore permits an additional axial retraction movement of the master screw (4) towards the interior of the casing (2) from the proximal backward position into a second proximal backward position with a defined penetration stroke during which the master screw (4) is no longer returned towards the exterior of the casing (2).

Abstract: In an integrated cutting and tapping tool, a part in the form of a strip is held on a strip support with a hole facing a tap carried by a tapping tool. The bottom dead center point of the tap is detected by a feeler associated with a multiplier lever pivoting about a transverse shaft and pulling on a transmission cable whose free end is detected by position detection means. In this way the position detection means may be moved out of the tool platen, so that the plunger and the multiplier lever constitute an assembly that is easy to integrate under the tapping area. The machining of defective tappings is detected in this way.
Abstract: In a tapping unit according to the invention, the tap is held in a tap-carrier which is screwed into a pattern retained and fixed against rotation in a casing. The tap, the tap-carrier and the pattern form a subassembly mobile with limited amplitude in axial translation and radial displacement inside the casing, so that the tap can follow unwanted movements of the part being tapped.
