  • Publication number: 20140190099
Abstract: Disclosed herein are various waterproof membranes that may be applied to a sill surface of an opening in a building structure to waterproof that surface as well as direct water that penetrates through the opening out of the structure. Generally, a flexible waterproof membrane is adhesively applied to the sill surface for purposes of waterproofing that surface. In one arrangement, the membrane includes a conformable adhesive flap that extends beyond the front edge of the sill surface and which is flexible to allow stretching and adhering the flap to a surface that is transverse (e.g., vertical) to the remainder of the membrane. The membrane also includes a non-adhesive flap that may be disposed over the adhesive flap once it is adhered in a desired orientation. The non-adhesive flap provides a durable surface for the adhesive flap once it is stretched and adhered in place.

  • Publication number: 20130122232
Abstract: Disclosed herein are various membranes that may be applied to an opening in a building structure to seal around and/or waterproof the opening. To provide improved conformance of the membrane to underlying surfaces the membrane utilizes a facer film that permits permanent stretching without the application of little or any elastic/retractive forces by the facer film. In one embodiment, the length of the facer film is in excess of the length of an adhesive substrate of the membrane to allow stretching of the substrate without stretching the facer film. In another embodiment, the facer film has low elastic memory such that it plastically detail is as the underlying adhesive substrate stretches.

  • Patent number: 7861486
Abstract: An expansion joint and seal is provided that is adapted for adherence to a wall and floor interface. The joint is operative to seal the interface such that self-leveling materials cannot flow between the wall and the floor. When adhered to the interface, a compressive member may be disposed coincidental to the wall. This compressive member allows for expansion of solidified self-leveling materials relative to the wall. In one arrangement, the joint and seal utilizes a flexible sheet member having a bottom surface that is adapted for adherence to the interface of a wall and floor. A compressible member is attached to the top surface of the flexible sheet member. The bottom surface of the flexible sheet member may also include a peel-away release member that covers an adhesive disposed on the bottom surface.

Generally, one or more flexible waterproof membranes are adhesively applied to the sill surface for purposes of waterproofing that surface. Such membranes may further incorporate a back dam structure that is disposed proximate to the rearward edge of a sill plate (i.e., disposed toward the interior of the structure) to direct water towards the front edge of the sill plate (i.e., toward the outside of the structure). Further, such membranes may include wicking material on one or more surfaces to allow for directing water out of a building structure. In various arrangements, one or more flexible membranes may be utilized to create an open fronted sill pan.

Generally, one or more flexible waterproof membranes are adhesively applied to the sill surface for purposes of waterproofing that surface. In one arrangement, an exposed top surface of the membrane forms a resilient surface that allows for inserting, for example, shims between the membrane and a structure disposed on the membrane without damaging the membrane. In another arrangement, an exposed top surface of the membrane includes a wicking material to facilitate removal of moisture from a structure. In another arrangement, the membrane includes a conformable flap to facilitate the adherence of the flap to surface that is transverse to the remainder of the membrane.

  • Patent number: 6676779
Abstract: An apparatus for producing an air and moisture barrier laminate for sealing the interface between a sill plate and a foundation wall. The resulting laminate includes a compressible spacer material for placement between the top of a foundation wall and the bottom of a sill plate upon construction of a framed structure. Interconnected to a surface of the spacer material is an adhesive layer that may be selectively adhered to the foundation wall's top surface. The adhesive layer is operative to both securely attach the spacer material to the foundation wall to facilitate placement of the sill plate and to seal voids between the spacer material and the foundation wall. In a further embodiment, the laminate contains a second adhesive layer to seal the interface between the side surfaces of the foundation wall and the sill plate.
