Patent number: 5735850Abstract: The invention discloses a fastening system for pedicel screws anchorable in different vertebrae. The spherical screw heads lie in spherical shells of apertured counter-bodies. The counter-bodies have planar support surfaces which lie on a supporting link in the region of elongate holes. A screw element is provided in the axial direction of each pedicel screw and is pivotably journalled at the supporting link with a spherical support surface arranged in the region of the elongate hole. The pedicel screws are generally skewed relative to one another and can, when account is taken of the nature of the bone, be rigidly connected to the supporting links via the screw elements due to the fact that the support surfaces can be clamped against one another in a self-locking manner on pedicel screws which are positioned inclined relative to the support surfaces.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1996Date of Patent: April 7, 1998Assignees: Sulzer Medizinaltechnik AG, Protek AGInventors: Walter Baumgartner, Stefan Freudiger

Patent number: 5645604Abstract: With the invention there is shown a C-shaped clip as a compression member (8) which can be inserted into a pocket (15) of a joint support (4) and which can itself be secured in this pocket against falling out of place by a latched arrangement. In this arrangement the two limbs of the clip act transversely to their spring direction as a spacer between a spring tongue (5) and a shoulder which are formed on the joint support (4). In this way a simple securing device arises which is recessed in the joint support (4) and which prevents springing back of the latched spring tongue (5) and is only loaded in compression. In the installed state the spring tongue (5) is not itself subjected to any alternating bending loads.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1996Date of Patent: July 8, 1997Assignees: Sulzer Medizinaltechnik AG, Protek AGInventors: Markus Schneider, Walter Moser

Patent number: 5500018Abstract: A method and apparatus for introducing a shank (5) of a prosthesis into a bone cavity is disclosed. A strap 1 having an loop portion 2 and an end portion 3 is wrapped around the shank. The end portion of the strap is then clamped by a clamping device 4 to secure the strap around the shank. The bone cavity is filled with bone cement and the lower end of the shank is introduced into the bone cavity thereby forming a gap between the shank and the outer wall of the bone cavity. A strap substantially seals this gap to minimize leakage of bone cement from the bone cavity. The clamping device 4 allows the end portion of the strap to slip relative to the clamping device when a threshold force is applied against the clamping device. In this manner, the strap will conform to the increasing cross-sectional area of the elongate body of the shank as the shank is introduced into the bone cavity.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 1994Date of Patent: March 19, 1996Assignees: Protek AG, Sulzer Medizinaltechnik AGInventors: Lorenzo Spotorno, Willi Fick, Roland Willi
