Abstract: Methods, devices and computer program products for facilitating the selection of a sourcing peer in peer-to-peer (P2P) streaming environment are disclosed. These methods allow peers to select candidate source peers in an informed manner with low overhead and minimized complexity. These and other features are accomplished by signaling detailed information regarding the buffer contents to one or more requesting peers. This information includes the presence or absence of requested content segments and a listing of gaps in the requested content segments, which allow the requesting peers to select an appropriate sourcing peer. The selection of a sourcing peer is also effected by considering network connectivity and/or network congestion status between the sourcing and the requesting peers.

  • Publication number: 20200242630
Abstract: An apparatus for providing advertising content to terminals communicating over a communications network is provided. The apparatus includes a processing element that communicates with network elements residing on the network or other networks to receive information regarding the terminals and their users. At least one of the terminals may be a mobile terminal. The processing element communicates an instruction to an advertising platform based on this information, and the advertising platform in turn selects and transmits advertising content to the respective terminals according to the instruction. Such content may include text messages, voice messages, picture messages, video clips, and more. In some cases, the processing element may determine a common characteristic of two or more terminals and their users based on the information received, and advertising content based on that common characteristic may be sent to the terminals. A method, system, and computer program product are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20200089624
Abstract: A data block storage management capability is presented. A cloud file system management capability manages storage of data blocks of a file system across multiple cloud storage services (e.g., including determining, for each data block to be stored, a storage location and a storage duration for the data block). A cloud file system management capability manages movement of data blocks of a file system between storage volumes of cloud storage services. A cloud file system management capability provides a probabilistic eviction scheme for evicting data blocks from storage volumes of cloud storage services in advance of storage deadlines by which the data blocks are to be removed from the storage volumes. A cloud file system management capability enables dynamic adaptation of the storage volume sizes of the storage volumes of the cloud storage services.

  • Patent number: 10498027
Abstract: The invention relates to a method, devices and systems, where a first radio connection is formed from a user device to a communication network, and information of a location of the user device is provided to a server system connected to the communication network over the first radio connection. Then, link setup information is formed at the server system and provided from said server system over the first radio connection. The link setup information comprises data for forming a second radio connection from the location of the first user device to a communication network using a beam forming antenna. Utilizing this link setup information, a second radio connection is formed from the first user device to a communication network, and a beam forming antenna operating in a beam forming mode is used in the forming of the radio connection. The second radio link may be a link between the user device mounted in a fixed location, e.g. a wall of a building and a network radio node. The user device may be e.g.

  • Patent number: 10425812
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and devices for mutual communication between devices, and to computer programs enabling such communication. According to the invention, in a first device is controlled a transmitter module operable in a local radio communications network to transmit a sequence of radio signal pulses representing a predetermined code. In at least one second device a receiver module is scanning said local radio communications network to detect said predetermined code. A contact network of the user of said at least second device is accessed, and the predetermined code is checked in the second device against the user's contact network for a match stored in the network profiles for the contacts. Then a validation key is fetched, that relates to a matching contact found in said contact network, and a connection establishment request containing the validation key is sent over said local radio communications network from the second device to the first device.
