  • Patent number: 10148008
Abstract: An antenna array device is steered laterally (horizontally) by phase shifting the RF signal at each column of the array. The phase shifting is incremented column by column. Control signals provided to the phase shifters control the steering. The antenna array device may be an MIMO antenna, with at least two arrays. Two different DC control signals may be combined with two RF signals, with the different DC control signals used to control a left or right side of each of the two antenna arrays.

  • Patent number: 10038512
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for controlling frame timing and/or duration in a wireless communications network are described. Recurring interference is monitored for, detected and evaluated. Frame structure to be used in the network is determined based on the detected recurring interference in one or more monitored frequency bands. An implemented frame structure is changed dynamically in response to a detected new pattern of interference. Uplink and downlink timing and frame duration maybe determined separately, e.g., based on interference which affects uplink and downlink communications, respectively. Devices, e.g., base stations, may independently determine frame start times and durations based on detected interference or may communicate with one another to reach a consensus on a frame start time and duration to be used by multiple base stations. Downlink frame start times and durations may be based on interference information reported by one or more devices, e.g., mobile user equipment devices.

  • Patent number: 9414334
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for using WLAN chips, e.g., WiFi communications chips, to support communications in licensed frequency spectrum which is located outside unlicensed frequency spectrum available for unlicensed WiFi communications, are described. Through the use of low cost WiFi communications chips in frequency bands for which they were not originally intended, low cost communication is achieved in licensed frequency bands. Multimode devices are also possible in which communications may be implemented in either the licensed or unlicensed frequency band using a single WLAN transceiver chip.

  • Patent number: 7668572
Abstract: A system and method to remotely activate a procedure, preferably to Reload, a transceiver unit powered with an Ethernet cable. The system and method includes a power source including circuitry to reverse the polarity of voltage for a desired amount of time to a detection circuit in the transceiver unit. Upon successful detection, a reload circuit preferably in the transceiver unit activates the Reload procedure in the transceiver unit.

  • Patent number: 7502349
Abstract: A device for wirelessly transmitting data under a wireless protocol is contemplated. A remote wireless network device initiates a session with a network. In this manner, information is sent to a gateway associated with the access point that couples the remote wireless network device to the network. When the remote wireless network device moves, data is tunneled between the succeeding gateway and the original gateway, but for those sessions opened at the original gateway. Any sessions associated with the remote wireless network device at the new gateway are processed and maintained by the new gateway without tunneling the data.

  • Patent number: 7453903
Abstract: A wireless network device that assigns priorities to communications in a network has a first circuit for receiving wireless messages from remote wireless network devices and a second circuit operable to send wireless messages to the remote wireless network devices. A third circuit makes a determination of the relative priorities of the remote wireless network devices. The wireless network device is operable to form a message to the remote wireless network devices, where the message is used to set a backoff time in the remote wireless network devices. The backoff time sent to the remote wireless network device is related to the relative priority of the remote wireless network device.

  • Publication number: 20080212692
Abstract: A method and system for providing multilingual wireless communications network are disclosed. The present invention discloses a mechanism of receiving and/or transmitting an OFDM data stream using IEEE 802.16-2004 standard and an OFDMA data stream using IEEE 802.16e standard. A timing division duplexing (“TDD”) frame is configured to contain data that has different standards. At least a portion of OFDM data is allocated in a portion of the TDD frame while a portion of OFDMA data is allocated in another portion of the TDD frame. The TDD frame is subsequently transmitted to both OFDM subscriber stations and OFDMA subscriber stations.

  • Patent number: 7039140
Abstract: Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) receiver embodiments of the invention provide data demodulator synchronization by finding the end of the short preamble in an IEEE-802.11a burst transmission. This method exploits the fact that there are certain symmetries in the long-preamble that can be used to determine synchronization. The long-preamble sequence is composed of a guard interval (GI) and two long-preamble symbols; the GI is the last 32 samples of the long-preamble symbol. The 32nd sample of the long-preamble acts as a “pilot” or “anchor” sample in that the previous N and subsequent N samples are complex conjugates, or conjugate “mirror” vectors. Due to the periodicities of the long-preamble, this property repeats every 32 samples. No other samples in the long preamble exhibit this property. Coherent combining is used in one embodiment for robustness.
