Abstract: An optical cable includes an optical core and sheath enclosing the optical core. The optical core includes a number of optical units having respective colors and being wound about a longitudinal axis of the cable. The sheath includes at least one non opaque longitudinal section through which a sequence of colors of the optical units is visible from outside the cable. The color sequence acts as an identifier for the cable. The cable may therefore be easily identified (e.g. amongst other cables laid down within the same duct) by a simple visual inspection of the cable's inner structure through the non opaque section(s) of its external sheath.

Abstract: A high voltage electric cable having a longitudinal axis may include: a conductive core having a first cross sectional area; wherein the conductive core includes a solid, central conductor, and at least three solid, sector conductors stranded around the central conductor. The central conductor may have a second cross sectional area. A ratio of the second cross sectional area to the first cross sectional area may be of from 1/130 to 1/20.
Abstract: A method for detecting an electrical current longitudinal variation in a power transmission system including a power cable. Electric losses and their location along the cable length can be detected. Current variation in a grounded metallic layer of a power cable is measured from Faraday rotation of polarised light travelling in a single-mode optical fibre wound in a radially external position with respect to the grounded metallic layer. Measurements of the Faraday rotation are carried out by means of polarization-sensitive optical time domain reflectometry (POTDR) or by polarization-sensitive optical frequency domain reflectometry (POFDR) while a direct current is injected in the metallic layer.
Abstract: A process for recovering wastes of a polymeric composition including at least one peroxide-curable polymer and at least one peroxidic crosslinking agent, which includes compounding the wastes with at least one antioxidant agent suitable for sulfur-vulcanized elastomeric compositions, at a temperature lower than the decomposition temperature of the at least one peroxide crosslinking agent. The compounding of the polymeric wastes with the antioxidant agent is carried out at a temperature lower than the decomposition temperature of the peroxide crosslinking agent, so as to avoid any premature activation of the crosslinking agent. The process is particularly suitable for compositions based on elastomeric polyolefins, more preferably for elastomeric ethylene copolymers such as ethylene-propylene copolymers (EPR) and ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymers (EPDM), which can be processed at relatively low temperatures, much lower than the decomposition temperatures of the most common peroxide crosslinking agents.
Abstract: A partial discharge detecting device includes an electric field sensor including: a first electrode configured to detect by capacitive coupling a partial discharge signal generated by an electrical object and to provide a corresponding first electrical signal, and a second electrode isolated from the first electrode and structured to detect an environmental noise and to provide a corresponding second electrical signal. The detecting device further includes a transmission line structured to propagate an output signal obtained from the electric field sensor toward an external analysis apparatus and an electronic module connected to the first and second electrodes and structured to process the first and second electrical signals and to provide the output signal to the transmission line. The electronic module is structured to decouple the electric field sensor from the transmission line and avoid resonance of the electric field sensor with the transmission line.

Abstract: A high voltage direct current cable includes at least one electrical conductor, at least one semiconducting layer, at least one stratified insulation made from windings of at least one paper-polypropylene laminate, the stratified insulation being impregnated with at least one electrically insulating fluid having a kinematic viscosity of at least 1,000 cSt at 60EC, wherein the laminate includes at least one paper layer having an air impermeability of at least 100,000 Gurley sec?1. Such a high air impermeability of the paper layer(s) remarkably reduces the swelling of the polypropylene layer(s) during impregnation with a high viscosity insulating fluid, thus preventing delamination, up to the end of the impregnation process for the whole stratified insulation.
