Abstract: An improved integrated circuit is provided to facilitate communication between a microprocessor and a non-volatile memory. The integrated circuit comprises at least one lock status register, at least one control register and a memory controller. The lock status register comprises a plurality of lock status bits representing whether or not a corresponding unit of storage in the volatile memory has been locked. The control register stores configurable control information for the memory controller, including sizing information defining the size of the unit of storage. The memory controller is configured to receive a modification request to modify data in the non-volatile memory; determine a target unit of storage in the non-volatile memory based on a target memory address associated with the modification request; determine from the lock status register whether the target unit of storage has been locked; and implement the modification request only if the target unit storage has not been locked.

  • Patent number: 8555493
Abstract: Described herein is a method of manufacturing a molded printed circuit board. The printed circuit board may be placed inside of a mold and a material is injected therein. The material hardens in the mold around the printed circuit board thereby forming an overmolded printed circuit board. The overmolded material may have apertures in it to allow access to the leads on the printed circuit board so that components to be connected to it. The overmolded printed circuit boards may allow a plurality of electrical components to selectively and removably attach to it. Further, the printed circuit board may be molded with components or a dock attached to it.

Abstract: An enclosure is provided for a device comprising one or more electronic assemblies where the enclosure deforms under a shock in one or more selected manners to dissipate the shock energy. The deformation, which is elastic deformation, occurs at selected parts of the enclosure and/or in selected translations and/or rotations where those selections are made by the designer of the enclosure. By being able to define where and how the deformations will occur, the electronic assemblies can be located, mounted and interconnect within the enclosure such that the deformation does not adversely affect the assemblies or device.

  • Publication number: 20130135207
Abstract: A novel capacitive sensing keyboard allows for keypads to be easily changed for repair or reconfiguration purposes. The keypads can be made of a deformable and resilient material, such as an elastomer, which can provide tactile feedback to a user and which are relatively inexpensive to manufacture. An array of overlying pairs of driver elements and sense elements are located adjacent the keypad and changes in the dielectric value of materials about the driver/sense element pairs are detected when a key on the keypad is pressed by a user. These detected changes are processed in view of a defined key map to determine which key or keys have been pressed by the user.

  • Publication number: 20130103935
Abstract: A method and system are set forth for enabling software control of a power management unit (PMU) in a System-On-a-Chip (SoC) device to effect changes in power state without having to adjust external board level states. In one embodiment, once the SoC system controller has been booted, it communicates with the PMU over a communication bus and is able to request changes in power states without requiring external trigger events. Complete remote control of power states according to the method and system set forth herein provides flexibility when debugging and testing SoC devices because there is no need to alter external board states. Also, providing programmable changes in reset states as an alternative to full system reset preserves state data so that the system can be restarted efficiently and quickly from known conditions.

  • Patent number: 8386826
Abstract: A method and system for managing power of a portable device is disclosed. The portable devices has a plurality device components that has controllable power settings. The device has a plurality of power profiles, each power profile referencing a list of the available device components that are configured for adequate power needs. Set of rules are then defined having a criterion for executing the plurality of power profiles, where the criterion is based on a device input. Once the rules and power profiles are created, the device inputs are monitored to determine if there is a match. If the criteria in the rules are matched, the corresponding power profile is executed to maximize battery life.
