Patents Assigned to PSS Systems, Inc.
  • Patent number: 7895229
Abstract: Exemplary systems and methods for conducting cross-checks on legal matters across an enterprise system are provided. In exemplary embodiments, search parameters are received from a user to search for custodians across the plurality of legal matters that are affected. A cross-check module then accesses legal matter information. An analysis of whether a custodian is common to more than one legal matter based on the search parameters, tracked relationships, and the legal matter information is performed. Results are then provided to the user. In further embodiments, the cross-check module may also provide a listing of collected data based on the cross-check analysis.

  • Patent number: 7178033
Abstract: Digital assets are in a secured form that only those with granted access rights can access. Even with the proper access privilege, when a secured file is classified, at least a security clearance key is needed to ensure those who have the right security clearance can ultimately access the contents in the classified secured file. According to one embodiment, a secured file or secured document includes two parts: a header, and an encrypted data portion. The header includes security information that points to or includes access rules, a protection key and a file key. The access rules facilitate restrictive access to the encrypted data portion and essentially determine who the secured document can be accessed. The file key is used to encrypt/decrypt the encrypted data portion and protected by the protection key.

  • Patent number: 6931597
Abstract: Techniques for indicating secured files among other files in a graphic operating system are disclosed. According to one aspect of the techniques, each file has a standard or default icon to be associated with. When one of files in a selected place is detected in a secured format, a visual object is retrieved to be overlaid upon a default icon of the file without obscuring the original meaning or indication of the default icon.

  • Patent number: 6889210
Abstract: Techniques for reorganizing security levels without implicating accessibility to secured files classified in accordance to one of the security levels are disclosed. In a case of adding a new security level, the controllability or restrictiveness of the new security level is determined with respect to the most restrictive security level or the least security level in a set of existing security levels. A set of proper security parameters are then generated for the new security level and subsequently the existing security levels are reorganized to accommodate the new security level. In a case of removing a security level from the existing security levels, the security parameters for the security level to be deleted are either folded up or down to an immediate next security level, depending on implementation.

  • Patent number: 6633901
Abstract: A “flat” network architecture facilitates direct connections between nodes so that information may be retrieved more efficiently. Agent software is loaded on each participating node, and this code is sufficiently intelligent to share and relay information appropriately in accordance with user requests. The invention is particularly advantageous in situations where communication bottlenecks are likely to occur, such as between corporate intranets and the Internet, in conjunction with requests to international servers, and in other configurations wherein only a limited number of data pipelines are available. A method of accessing information in a client-server network architecture according to the invention includes the step of maintaining a database on the server which keeps track of where desired information is stored on the network. When such information is requested from the server, the database is queried to determine whether the information is available from one or more participating clients.
